86 New GT-86 based Toyota Supra to race under Gazoo racing banner


The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are 2+2 sports cars jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, manufactured at Subaru's Gunma assembly plant. For the first-generation model, Toyota marketed the sports car as the 86 in Asia, Australia, North America (from August 2016), South Africa, and South America; as the Toyota GT86 in Europe; as the 86 and GT86 in New Zealand; as the Toyota FT86 in Brunei, Nicaragua and Jamaica and as the Scion FR-S (2012–2016) in the United States and Canada.

As expected, the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon is shaping up to be a GT86 festival and thanks to Toyota motorsports partner Gazoo Racing, we have our first teaser of the likely star of the show.

Called the GRMN Sports FR Concept, this modified Toyota GT86 (sold as the Scion FR-S in North America), looks to be a dramatic machine with more angular styling and taillights inspired by the Toyota Supra.

While no engine details have been provided, this concept car could also deliver Supra-like power, thanks to the backing of Toyota’s motorsports experts at Gazoo Racing.
