Golf New Golf MkVII uncovered..!!

The Golf is to family hatchbacks what the S-Class is to luxury cars and the M5 is to sports saloons. Whenever a brand is developing a new hatchback, the Golf is always aimed as the car to beat.

It's just arrogant to simply dismiss the value of internet forum members' opinion on the basis that they are not the direct consumers (buyers) of a given product. Any person in sales will know that, in any sales process, all said and done, there are just two types of participants: Decision Makers and the Influencers.

The Decision Maker is the Buyer, the individual with the need and the one spending the money.
The Influencer can be one or more individuals but at the most basic level it's the person trying to provide the Buyer with what they need in return for money – in other words, the salesman.

There of course are many different types of Influencers and in a particular sales cycle the Buyer may call on numerous Influencers in order to construct a solid supporting case for their decision to Buy or not to Buy.

Some of these influencers have a vested interest in the outcome of the buying decision, for example a kid will influence his parents to buy car X because he read about all of it on the 'Net and he reckons it'll be cool to have one in the family. Other buyers have make use of more credible and influential acquaintances – a trusted family advisor, a connection in the industry, a parent and so on...

Please don’t take this as immodesty, but given the car freak that I am, I am literally consulted on the buying of a car by most of my colleagues/friends/family who know of my predisposition towards the automotive stuff. Besides the cars that I have bought for myself I have been a major Influencer in the sale of too many cars to mention: BMWs, Hondas, Toyotas, Mercedes Benzes, Audis, Subarus and, of course, many VWs.

The VW Golf is a straightforward product to recommend to so many different types of people. It transcends its market positioning and has practically universal appeal across the broadest spectrum; from badge snobs to people who simply view a car as an appliance for getting from A to B, the VW Golf is likely the single best car in the world for the following reasons:

- Its FWD-based packaging allows for a roomy interior and good luggage space relative to its exterior dimensions
- Its build and perceived quality are top-notch and it’s a safe car
- Model for model it strikes the ideal balance between ride and handling given its intended targeting of the masses
- Its styling is completely inoffensive yet pleasingly and simply attractive without having to resort to oddness to shout its premium status
- It gives away nothing about its owner beyond them having made a good purchasing decision
- It has just the right level of sophistication and has every conceivable function necessary
- It owns the letters GTI

And, unless driving dynamics was a paramount decision criteria for a potential buyer, 9 times out of 10 I would recommend the Golf over a 1er. Now that the F20 has such controversial looks recommending the 1er just became that little bit harder.

Next GTI comes with 220 hp and I dont think the price are going to change much. More power, same equipment, better design, same price. It hard to argue against it, dont you think?

It's always been like this. BMW is super premium over a Golf. Don't see what's suddenly new here. If you want GTI power you will have to buy a future 125i, 130i or 135i. Much more expensive indeed. Like twice as much fully loaded :D
Golf 7 GTI sounds like a great deal though. I'd go for it Andreas!

I do not want to upset Giannes nor derail this thread, please allow me my view since I posted "anti-F20 / pro VW" Page 2 of this thread, here yesterday.

I thought long and hard about this and had my fun yesterday - the facts IMO from my post in the F20 Thread.

EnI @ ALL

Without it being my intention to derail any thread it's back to business. I had my fun yesterday in the - New Golf MVII uncovered Thread and Giannes brought us back on topic (rightfully so)

I just want to make it clear that front looks aside, the F20 has all the typical/stunning BMW-DNA and that - in my book forgives the mistakes made (IMO) by the BMW design team and those who signed-off on it.

The F20 BMW 1 Series stay's true to what is absolutely essential in making a BMW a BMW in heart and sole.
RWD, Dynamic Chassis and Suspension also Direct Steering, Excellent Engines that delivers on power and Efficient Dynamics and last but surely not least 50:50 weight distribution.

The essence of a great driving position and what appears to be a very nice cockpit and that BMW AG listened and delivered with better premium materials inside.

It's all there, fact is that say BMW decided to switch to FWD etc. we had really reason to complain and send the brand to hell. They did not and delivered a visually challeging car albeit a REAL and TRUE drivers car that will deliver on Sheer Driving Pleasure and THE best Dynamics in this market segment.

Well done BMW! The looks my never make sense nor appeal to me, but the ingredients is pure and building on what made BMW strong in the past. That is what really makes a great car an even a better BMW.

Regards,
Naas

That is why I'd still prefer the F20 over the Golf.;)

ALL this aside, this is my personal opinion BUT believe me that if I were in the market for a hot hatch right now the Scirocco R would've been my second choice. Also I will not hide the fact that I just love the Golf GTI - it's nice knowing that I can say F* the Koreans, the Germans has all the basis covered:t-cheers:

@ Martin: Your post (#42) is excellent. Sums up Golf's existance in just a few words!

@ Naas: Your post is not off topic. There's nothing wrong in comparing the single best all around hatchback, the Golf, with the segments best handling one, the 1er. Personal attacks and results is what is not welcome!

PS. My name is Giannis, not Giannes ;)

Don't know why the F20 is even being mentioned here as it's competition isn't really the Golf, that's the job of the A3. Then again if you are familiar with the Mk5 Golf and have sat in the Mk6 you will instantly noticed it's move upmarket with a classier interior, so does this mean the Mk7 will also make a similar move upmarket and offer F20 perceived quality at a more afford ticket price. Also if you are considering a Mk7 GTI the name GTI is so iconic and no 1 series or A3 has this amount of appeal, surely that has to count for something.

After two years of reporting on Volkswagen Golf VII chassis mules, we finally have first photographs of a full-bodied prototype.

The spy behind the lens in the USA was very lucky to get these shots before VW engineers took this five-door prototype away into the garage. This is the first time Volkswagen is using the black and white camouflage together with some extra black cammo over the front and rear.

Looking lower and longer, the next-generation Golf is scheduled to be introduced in late 2012 or early 2013. It is slated to ride on the new MQB architecture.

Rumor has it Golf production is being considered for Volkswagen's brand new Chattanooga plant. Such a move would make the Golf more competitive in the U.S. as the current Golf starts at $17,965 which is $1,970 more than roomier Jetta.

More photos on the way as soon as they leave the garage.
:t-cheers:
