When the wife and myself visited the UAE, we made use of Qatar Airways. That meant we touched down in Doha and from there to Dubai. I was not impressed by the old Airport. It was small and not up to the now modern facilities of other oil rich countries in the Middle East.

So, more than well done! It's absolutely superb:)(y)

Let me tell you one thing about Qatar. Any planned "finish" dates, are gonna be moved several times. This airport was supposed to be opened on 12/12/12, the big date. Then it was moved again, then again...
So, I will be happy if I see this Airport open in 2014

After all, the most popular word here is "bukra", which means "tomorrow" :)

Other then that, if will be cool to finally have a new airport. The current one is to messy.

They changed contractor from to an italian from the German/UAE one.
The airport is 90% finished, and the new contractor is working on the lounges.

Thing is that traffic will start 1st april but only for the low cost carriers and such, Qatar airways will not start to use the airport before the lounges are ready, which is expected to be during the time period june-september.

Thats what you get when you go from German to Italian :)

People love overdesigned & massive airports, I simply love AD airport. 2 minuets and you are on the street. Dxb or Heathrow airport for example, you can easily get lost or take you some time to change gates/terminals. Not cool when you have short time for connected flights.

JFK, mate :D When you finally get out of the airport you now have to find out how to get to the city... which you can see as a far away mirage in the distance(The first time is the hardest then you get used to it or just use cabs and ask everyone you can at the airport) :D

Man, you can tell that you don't live over here ;) They fool you too easy. :D

For example, the Salwa Road project was supposed to be done 7 months ago. They are not even halfway. Man, I could give you a million examples ;)
I bet my money that still in 2014, the whole airport will not be near open.

^Fool me in what way? i never claimed that it WILL be ready..im just writing what is reported

Obviously you live there and have better insight..

He means deadlines are not strict in Qatar or middle east in general. Just to point out few things Tumbo, you think sticking to a schedule in ME is easy but actually it isn't. Millions of times and almost always, surprises happen. I can name few but almost not a single project went seamlessly. Nature is rought over here, steele get rusty quickly, Qatar is just like Abu Dhabi, an island. So expect high in salt soils and tons of humidity, not so "materials" friendly specally steele, wood or even alu. It will corrode during the building process. Technically my current house is an small lake beneath, Why ? Because the land is artificial sometimes or very thin crust, so expect to withdraw gallons of water and use expensive pilling. Believe me when I say, it is really impressive to build a small tower in Gulf region, takes lots of hustle to get it weather proof. Not to mention, we had some international contractors that simply ran away in the middle of projects, because they under estimated the "bulletproofing" process :D
