Cameras New Camera...kind of (Hasselblad 503CWD)

Designed around the classic Hasselblad 503, with Carl Zeiss Planar CFE 2.8/80 mm lens, 2.2-inch OLED display, FireWire 800 output and a 16 megapixel 36.7 x 36.7 mm sensor, the Hasselblad 503CWD may well be the most beautiful digital camera ever made. Of course, at about $14,000, it's not for everyone. Which may explain why Hasselblad is only making 500 of the cameras, to commemorate the 100th birthday of company founder Victor Hasselblad. No, this isn't a camera for carrying around to take candids of the kids. But if you've got the cash and long for a high-end studio digicam with a sense of history, get in line. Those 500 are probably going to go very quickly.

Great, thanks for the info notic. I've long been a fan of Hasselblad and I have owned one for over a decade - they really are beautifully made cameras - they are totally manual cameras - even with a digital back like this special edition model comes with, the actual camera is still very basic.

Recently I have been very impressed with this little Alpa 12 TC - I would love to own one of these.

That looks very interesting. I'm actually just only begining to delve into the world of photography so these names and terms are all quite new to me. Feel free to ignore this if you find it intrusive, but what kind of camera are you using now?

Mostly notic I am using a very common Nikon coolpix compact digital camera.

I also have an old Nikon F3 and a Leica M6 (35mm cameras) - but I very seldom use them now.

This thing is trash. My Sony Cyber-shot T1 has 5 mexagpixels and even a Carl Zeiss lense. It will own this camera! I'm just joking about this camera being trash. It certain beats my Sony. I want to get a good SLR and learn how to take some serious photos. My Sony isn't exactly the world's greatest camera. Any suggestions for a good entry level SLR?

PS I love engadget.com. What a great website. You should try digg.com

i've heard good things about nikon, but after reading all the online reviews, i ended up buying the canon rebel xt. that and the fact that nikon slr's would not be compatable with some lenses my dad gave me from his old slr.

I'm also trying to get into photography, but my financial situation is halting me from getting a DSLR. I'm very interested in the Nikon D50 - they look great.

Nothing wrong with Canon cameras notic - I've just used Nikon for so long - I am more familiar with the "feel" of their products...if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the websites :usa7uh:

I have also used my grandfather's old Pentax 35mm camera in the past - my first experience with a completely mechanical camera.

One of my most favourite 35mm film cameras was the olympus OM-4Ti. I owned one when I was in my teens (in the early 1990's) - it was such a great little camera with excellent quality lenses. Olympus no longer offer such an extensive system as that anymore.

IMO DSLRs are overrated, anyhow. You don't need one to enjoy photography, especially if you're just getting into it.

The financial part is probably the biggest hurdle, getting the body and getting the lenses after that.

Apart from that, there's a bit of time and effort you need to learn about photography - techniques, as well as time to go practice, like learning any other skill.

I reckon a good, cheap camera would be a Canon A610.

Decent sensor size (for a compact camera), enough manual controls (IMO only of course), decent lens, smallish and reasonably light size, and flip-and-twist LCD display. Less than AUD$400.
