So last Sunday I head to Munich to meet up with fellow Carspinner "Colin Rear" at the new BMW Museum.

Colin is a nice and friendly chap and he certainly knows his cars. This guy is a walking automotive encyclopedia. We went through the entire museum and took pictures of almost everything in sight. Later in the day we had lunch at the BMW Museum and then we had to say goodbye since he had to make it back to Zurich and I had to go home.

The new museum is great though I felt it could have used more exhibits, especially since they had ample space inside for more. Anyway, enjoy the pictures!

This is what greeted us at the doorsteps to the new BMW Museum: "The M Collection".

This is where we ate later on - the prices are not really cheap, but the food was worth it.

Somebody who claims he's a total "BMW enthusiast" and then asks "*** an airplane engine is doing in a BMW Museum" needs to get b_tchslapped. Yes, there are people like this that are out there!

-End of Part 1-

In the quest to define the layout for the new museum , many BMW personell visted rival museums of Mercedes-Benz and Audi , Whilst Audi had a formulac layout plan , Mercedes is just chaos everything is just joined together and squeezed in with no thought for layout. BMW wanted the simplistic look for the layout of it's history , as a company we are very space orientated and organised . We even have personell who especially inform employees regarding clutter and organisation at work stations, I am particular at that myself.:D

Awesome stuff Wimmer? Are there more parts, or just 8, because i want more?

BTW, no E39 M5?

So, i will be visiting the museum in the end of September, so expect my feedback about the museum at that time!

Well it is really easy to organise a museum when you have only a few different types of cars. Here are the 3 series, here are the 5 series...

Does not mean that if you have more stuff that you cannot organzie properly. If you have more stuff to show than get more space, simple as that.

Space has nothing to do with it. When you only have one type of item to show it is easy to organize. When you have several types of items over several different time periods it becomes harder.
Do you add the trucks from the 50s with the cars from the 50s with the races cars from the 50s and the buses from the 50s or do you separate everything by type and then year?:t-hands:

Mercedes should have a seperate museum for trucks and busses and stuff.
People do not want to see that when they go to the MB museum.

But I guess the BMW and Mercedes museum is just like the dealerships; BMW has ample space and only one or two cars from every model, while Mercedes puts 15 cars in a space for 8 cars.

Actually that's not quite true. The layout of the Mercedes Museum means that people start at the top and move down the building. The museum is organized into both time periods / eras and themes. It's pretty well-thought-out and there are plenty of exhibits. I felt that the BMW Museum could have used more exhibits. On the bright side there were some "under renovation" sectors so maybe we'll see a Focke-Wulf FW-190A4-8 someday with a BMW 801 engine. :D

Actually they do. It's part of their heritage and history. :usa7uh:

A true Mercedes' fan also has a respect and admiration for their trucks, buses etc. (I know you're a BMW guy but I am just saying this for the sake of saying it...:D). I think of myself as one because I really appreciate and eagerly await the stories in MB Classic magazine about their cars, trucks, buses, airplane- or ship or military engines etc. :t-cheers:
