The new Audi TT could be set to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of November, according to the latest rumours. The story has been given a further boost by the appearance of a single sketch on a Dutch blog website that claims to show the car’s rear.

Our exclusive main image is based on that picture, and shows more clearly what TT fans can expect from the new coupe. If the original image proves accurate, the rear of the car will combine shapes from the acclaimed 2010 Audi quattro concept, mixed in with more up-to-date detailing from the recent e-tron electric concepts. Audi is denying that it knows anything about the car, hinting that the focus at Tokyo will be on a five-door version of the A1. Yet Audi chose the Japanese show to reveal a previous TT concept, the Shooting Brake, in 2005.

Under the latest plan, the TT is set to move upmarket. While the current car uses chassis and engine components from the VW Golf, the new model is expected to feature an advanced mixed steel and aluminium chassis. The original’s front-engined, four-wheel-drive layout would remain, but this move would develop the TT as a Porsche Boxster and Mercedes SLK rival.

Bigger, more powerful engines are planned, including a twin-charged 2.0-litre, offering up to 300bhp. A fully electric version is also under development. Moving the TT upmarket would allow the VW Group to develop a smaller two-seat roadster, based on the BlueSport concept, which could eventually wear Skoda, SEAT, VW and Audi badges.

Are there even any testcars driving around in the world?

Good question, but then again if it were dressed in the body of something else at the moment would we even notice it? Even if it were to be shown at toyko this November as a concept preview of the next TT that doesn't mean the car will be arriving next year, I reckon mid 2013 at the earliest.

It talks about the TT moving more upmarket to allow room for a two seater to sit below it but already the TTRS with S-Tronic is already less than £10k shy of the much bigger RS5, is there really room to push its price much beyond what it's top model is at?

Mk II TT came out in 2006 so it is 5.5 years old now, The new model should be out in Geneva 2013.

I think a lot of people are forgetting the Mk2 TT has already had it's facelift and is in its twilight years.

Chat is that the replacement will increase the aluminium to make it significantly lighter still whilst increasing the output of its engines.

Remember that a concept previewing the current TT was also presented in Tokyo 6 years ago, so this news might actually be accurate

I'm hoping for something a bit more original and futuristic than a facelift of the current car. At least the technology under the skin will be bang up to date. :usa7uh:

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
