Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Strange side profile view, looks quite squashed.

Very much so!! not really liking the baby-shoe look here, its out of flow. Most or the design elements are not cohesive. It is amazing how you can see a little bit of Audis latest cars in the design work, starting wth the R in the hood design and windshield.

The interior is a stunning piece or work to say the least!

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

wow how did i miss this??
anyways its horrible..why do BMW and Audi insist to make this class of suv´s ugly??
they dont need to be ugly..
just look at the XC60 Concept..

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

This thing is ugly.

They need to push the back or C/D pillar back futher and it might look better.

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Interesting SUV, especially the size. Remember that we have seen Q5 test mules based on the A4. Maybe the Q5 will be smaller than we anticipate it too be. MB is wokring on their MLK which is a straight X3 competitor, this gives Audi the chance of creating something slightly different and gain it's on set of clientel.

I wish the tail lights looked like this though:

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

This is based on the next Golf/A3 platform Luw. It's the car we know as "Q3" although that won't be the production name.

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Every time Audi rolls out another concept I catch myself hoping that we'll see a spark of brilliance that pushes Audi twoards being a Style Leader. Unfortuantely, there hasn't been anything relevant since the Nuvolari, and this just continues the trend.

There's some interesting details on this concept, but there's nothing here that gets me excited about future product. SUVs are yesterday's news, and the prospect of yet another midlevel entry from a luxury brand just makes my eyes glaze over. I don't care. People buy these things, but I don't even believe that the people buying these things care. They're just pedestrian-minded folk who wanted a SUV with a luxury badge.

I understand why the rear is so sloped. I figure they're doing an Audi take on the classical Range Rover profile. There's some sort of off-road / rugged duty pretentions that are amplified by the super-raked tail. Really, it looks lame - Audi overdid it in an effort to appear different.

The only thing of real interest here is how the sides of this thing are styled. The "bar" that flows along the car's rocker panel is a reprise of a shape we saw in the wheels of the bad-ass Q7 Quattro concept. It's an idea Audi "owns" so let's hope it crops up in some future product.

The rest is ho-hum. Audi, BMW - we've seen enough of these "I'm Pissed Off / Darth Vader Mask" designs. This car's mug is something we've seen one thousand times and almost feels more Dodge / Chrystler than Audi. It isn't fresh, inspired, or anything else. It's just "Bold, agressive and in your face." Except that bold styling has become the new vanilla. Where's the unique Audi vision? Where's the "alternative" to the norm?

Artist - you are right about the XC60. It's probably the first Volvo in recent memory that's captured my attention.

Audi - you can do better than this. You've done better than this. You ought do better than this.

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

The front looks ok, but the rest looks just terrible imo. Interior too, and side profile in particular. WTH happened there....:eusa_thin

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

I don't mind it, the rear is a little to angled IMO, the front has a bit of A5 in the front guard section hence why I think its new Audi A4s face.

To be honest I've always being undecided on the rear hatch design on the Q7 which is carried over here, the Pikes Peak Concept rear was more to my liking.

Interior is very Audi :usa7uh:

I agree with EnI Concept A and Steppenwolf were much better exceuted ;)

How I think the back should look(forgive my crappy chopping skills)

It would look better that way but this is not a concept SUV like the Q7 Concept but a crossover that combines the stance of an SUV to the roofline of a coupé, hence the name "Audi Cross Coupe". The concept is almost like an offroad version of the Audi Roadjet concept similarly as the allroad quattro is a version of the A6 Avant:

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Not sure what to make of this really. That Huck illustration looked better than this, IMO. It isn't ugly, but it doesn't stun either. If this is the Q5 the roof needs to be a regular SUV style roof otherwise the practical part of the case will be lost.

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Really, the "Coupe" element of this concept is fluff to deflect the fact that this is just Audi's boring entree into the boring compact SUV market.

We've already blown our excitement wad on the Pike's Peak / Q7, so why give a rat's ass about a similar, yet smaller product? Answer - think up a gimmick. No, it's not a ordinary ol' compact SUV - It's some kind of hybrid quasi-coupe crossover newfanglemobile.

I still get excited about the side-sculpting - you can see how much drama is created by those shapes in the photo above. I just wish um... well, the inteior is awful pretty, isn't it?

You're right. The headlights Huck presented had a very strong Audi feeling to them. It seems as though we have some design ADD going on here with good ideas being cast aside before they've even had a chance to reach their potential.

Mind that this is not Q5 preview but Q3 / Q4 preview - a vehicle based on A3 platform. The size of the vehicle indicates A3 segment, also does transaxle engine layout & Haldex Quattro (instead of Torsen).

This Concept showcases upcoming new A3 line (starting with A3 cabrio, followed by A3 3dr hatch & Sportback, then "Q3" and possible sedan).

Check this Huck's CGI of A3 cabrio: see the similar headlights?

So ... Cross Coupe is previewing A3 family, not new A4/A5/Q5 family!!!

Yannis said it allredy. :usa7uh:

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Looks stupid ...and oddly, like a Porsche. I can't imagine Dr. Wiedeking would be totally happy with this one.

Re: Official: Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept Revealed

Not impressed at all. The side profile just looks wrong. If Audi wants to achieve a coupe like side profile, they should lower the roof instead of this half arsed effort. The front end design is very similar to the A5, which doesn't work at all for a tallish mini 4WD. The front end of the Audi Allroad looks much better. What happened to Audi's headlight design, the headlights on the current A4, R8 and the TT has interesting and stylish headlight and tailight design, the Cross Coupe's headlight shape looks very boring, i am sure it has nice LED lights, but the shap just doesn't stand out at all.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
