I tried searching for this but could not find it. I think there was a thread here related to this but once again I am not sure.

The other day I went to a store and started to read some car magazines. In flipping through one of them I noticed an article comparing the V10 from the M division and the new V8 from the AMG department. The V8, if I am not mistaken, is a 6.3l and does 501-507hp(can't remember) The torque is also high in the 460's I think.

If not discussed, could someone find some information on this.

I think this is rather interesting considering the competition (BMW, Audi) and is a work of art if you ask me.

I don't know exactly what you want to know about it other then what you stated already. If you want to get technical the engine is actually a 6.2L that can range in power from 480hp to 580hp and is very light for a DOHC engine. The only niggles I have with it is it doesn't have drysump and direct injection as far as I'm aware of, but that can be rectified maybe later. Other then that a fine piece of engineering.

Edit: Oh, and it deserves to be mated to something better than an auto.

BMWFREAK, everything you need to know about the M156 6.2liter V8 can be found here! 510hp @ 6800rpm 465lb-ft @5200rpm
This engine is 55lbs lighter than the Kompressor V8 and is about 90lbs. lighter
than the V10 used in the M5.

The E63 and CLS63 models will have 514hp which is a 38hp increase over the compressor V8s. Torque stays the same though
(465lb-ft) but that shouldn`t be a problem. Horsepower win races torque is pulling power.

This is rather interesting. I wonder how the V-10 from the M5 would perform if they would increase the displacement to...I don't know....6.0l?

This is very very good for MB and it is going to perform.

Horse power and torque would increase but your talking about a big weight gain. If I`m not mistaken the M5`s engine cylinder sleeves are lined with iron
to give it extra strength. This might be one of the reason it`s quite a few pounds heavier than the M156 V8 by AMG.

I just saw/heard an M5 fly by today when I was on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. OMG, that engine just growls so loud but in a very good way. I would love to hear this engine, I can't wait until my local dealership starts getting the AMG63 cars in so I can check them out. Last time I got to rev the crap out of the E55 and that thundrous sound was a beast. This engine is definitely a work of art and I'm glad that AMG got full right to build this and not just modify current MB engines.
