New 1.4 TFSI engine in the Audi A3.

A new, ultra-modern four-cylinder TFSI engine with a displacement of 1.4 litres and turbocharger can now be ordered for the Audi A3 and A3 Sportback. The 1.4 TFSI engine delivers 92 kW (125 bhp) at 5,000 rpm. Its maximum torque of 200 Nm is available across an unusually wide speed range of 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.

Audi’s engineers have long been demonstrating the effectiveness of FSI technology in combination with turbocharging both on the world’s racetracks and on the road. The prime example of this is the “Engine of the Year” award with which a jury of experts crowned the 2.0 TFSI in 2007 for the third time in succession.

This concept is being consistently used once again for the new 1.4 TFSI in order to combine optimal levels of efficiency and performance. Six-hole injectors guarantee highly homogeneous mixture preparation and extremely efficient combustion. The reduction of pollutants is also aided effectively in this way.

The integrated turbocharger and modified exhaust valve timing ensure optimised responsiveness and help torque to build up even more smoothly. 80 percent of the maximum torque of 200 Nm is available from 1,250 rpm, just above idle speed. The 1.4 TFSI at the same time sets new standards in its class in terms of acoustics. The new high-tech unit from Audi can be ordered for the A3 and A3 Sportback in combination with a six-speed manual gearbox.

With a top speed of 203 km/h and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds for the three-door A3, the 1.4 TFSI ensures supreme performance. Its average fuel consumption is just 6.5 litres of premium-grade fuel per 100 km.

The basic price of the A3 1.4 TFSI Attraction is 21,350 euros. The first vehicles will be available in September 2007.

Wow, I never thought Audi would offer the 1.4L TFSI engine for the A3/Sportback. That's great news for sure, especially for the Greek market where small powerful engines are very popular.:eusa_clap:usa7uh:

yes, but an Audi with an 1.4l engine? That's no good for Audi's reputation...

I know it's probably weird to drive an Audi with a 1.4L engine but on the other hand, if this engine is going to boost sales then it's more than welcome. BTW, is that 1.4L motor going to replace the currently 1.6L FSI, like in the Golf V?

but do the customer know this?

No. Not really. The average customer couldn't care less about that. But the average customer will care about during the test-drive.

Im not so impressed with fuel consumption for a 1.4 liter engine:eusa_thin

Is there another car that goes from 0 to 62 Mph in 9.6 seconds and average of 40 Mpg, but it's not a hybrid or a diesel?

I think it is a superb engine. Especially for people who live in countries were cars are taxed based on engine displacement. 125hp from a 1.4L engine sounds good to me and the acceleration is pretty decent too.

One quest.. Quattro ?

quattro=added weight and power loss from AWD components (=Hadlex diff. in the A3).

I would say that 125 hp are not enough to justify a quattro version.

I would say that 125 hp are not enough to justify a quattro version.

Exactly. With such a "weak" engine the car's acceleration won't benefit from an AWD system and some torque will also be lost. Quattro only improves acceleration when a car has a 2.0L engine or one which is more powerful.

But the weakes engine today with quattro only have 140 BHP Diesel A3/SB.
Well.. No Audi without Quattro, still I can't really decide what I like to call the Haldex system anyway.. :eusa_thin Thanks for the ansewer nevertheless

I'd rather get a turbo 1.4 than a 1.6 NA FSI anyday. I don't think it hurts Audi's reputation at all, for some reason Audi has been able to sell low displacement turbocharged cars without hurting its image. Like the A4 2.0T, or the A6 2.0T... Maybe it's because its turbo engines are just so good. Almost like bread and butter to Audi, as I6s are to BMW.

Interesting alternative to the Golf GT to say the least. Bring it on! It'll do exceptionally well here in Singapore.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
