My Pictures and Commentary from the 2009 Detroit Auto Show

Mercedes-Benz...............

CL550 4Matic:

SL65 AMG Black Series:

Finally I get to see a Black Series car. Another stunner from AMG. Doesn't even look like an SL from the side or head on.

SL550 and SL63 AMG:

S400 BlueHybrid:

SLR McLaren Stirling Moss:

Another entry for my fantasy garage. This thing is breathtaking. I'd kill to see it in other colors. Absolutely stunning.

GLK:

Very handsome in person IMO. Should be a hit. I heard a lot of people saying it was just the right size and what not. Interior quality seems to be better than the C-Class it is based on, puzzling.

G55 AMG:

Never seen a G in any other colors than White/Black/Silver so this one was a real treat. First time I really spent a lot of time in one too. Its the old school Mercedes fo real. I noticed that it takes a very deliberate shove to close the doors too. Mercedes has done a great job of keeping it modern, bluetooth, hardisc nav etc.

A Grand Edition CLK350 Cabriolet:

Tucked in the back and forgotten. Farewell 209..........

ML350:

S550 4Matic:

Various displays around the Mercedes-Benz stand:

Cadillac Converj Concept:

This is based on the Chevy Volt platform and could be a boom for Cadillac if they market it right. This is a much better looking dedicated greenie/hybrid/electric than the Lexus HS250h.

Final Comments....

For the first time in a long time I find myself really pulling for GM and Ford, and now Chrysler with the news of their merger with Fiat just in.

My favorites vehicle of the show was the Fisker Sunset Convertible. Absolutely stunning and it makes everything else green look like a waste material.

Finally got to see it award: Aston-Martin DBS. Finally, and it is a beauty.

Stirling Moss SLR didn't let me down either, wow..what a car.

Suprise was the BMW 7-Series interior. I mean it is as sumptous and comfortable as you can imagine any other car to be. Looking forward to the sport version of the swb 750i.

Missed Rolls-Royce and Porsche, seeing the DHC (again) and the new 911s would have been nice.

Prediction: The Chinese will fail in the U.S. market and will do so spectacularly and swiftly. Those cars are garbage, hell I doubt they'd even pass safety regulations here.

Audi and Aston-Martin still have the best looking lineups in the industry. Period.

SL65 Black Series is just as intimidating in person as it looks in pics.

Audi R8 V10 didn't wow because I want to see they Spyder version.

SEEING RED: New Audi S/A5 Cabriolet, no E-Class, no Infiniti G37 Convertible...no Infiniti/Nissan period. Mercedes played a cruel trick on its fans by showing the E to the press only.

Also, some pics didn't upload so I'll rehost and post them later.........

So liked the new Z4, the exterior?
Was it possible to sit inside the car and what did you think about the interior, well-built and solid?

PS I knew you were going to appreciate the 7er more once you see it in person, its not an ugly car as some members have claimed. sure the front is special but overall its one fine alternative vechicle to the S-class.

Yes the Z4 interior is very tight and sports car feeling. Build quality seemed excellent. Yes they had several examples on hand to sit in. You sit back and down low like in the current car. Yes I'm a fan of the new car, as I was the old one.

No the 7-Series isn't ugly, only the large, upright kidneys give pause...though not nearly as much as in pics.

The award for the most sinister looking car at the show goes to the Chevy "Camaro Black". I mean look at it:

Not sure if they're going to produce it, but they should.
