My New Car - 2016 E400 Coupé

Only the curtain airbags deployed. My steering wheel airbag did not deploy, then again, I'm not sure it needed to.

As far as I know the system recognizes the kind of crash and triggers only the airbags which are important in this single case.
In your case your car was hit at the side. This should be the reason why the steering wheel airbag not deployed.

Yes I pass through the intersection quite a bit when I'm in that part of town. We both know Dallas has the worst drivers around. I too wish you a speedy recovery. P.S. Look on the bright side, once you're all healed up it will be time for a new Benz!

Thank you, Merc1.

And yes, that's a huge bright side!

Travel safely!

That was my initial thought.

I'm not certain an American car would know the proper airbags to deploy per crash type. A few crash test videos show American cars in which the curtain airbags did not deploy during a side impact. Crazy!

The airbag system is also designed that airbags only will trigger when the seatbelt alone is not sufficient enough.
Or the system recognize that the passenger seat is free so the passenger airbag will not trigger.

As far as I know the newest system recognize if you wear your seatbelt or not.
If not the airbag will trigger faster because without the seatbelt your movement in direction steering wheel is faster and in this case you need also the protection faster.

Now imagine you want to drive without the seatbelt and you have in your car a seatbelt alert ( sorry, I don't know how is it called in english ) and you want disarm this signal.
You click in the seatbelt and lead the belt behind your back.
The system is thinking you do wear the seatbelt and will in case of a crash adjust the trigger time.
But you don't wear the seatbelt and so you will move with your body/head faster in direction steering wheel than with seatbelt.
The result can be that the airbag will trigger direct in front of your face.

Thank you, Monster.
Yes, someone called the police.
I believe the state of Texas is working to fully ban vehicular cellphone usage, thankfully.
Here in Sydney at least, it is illegal to even touch your mobile phone when you drive. I am not sure about how the insurance policy works over in the US, shouldn't the girl's insurance company have the full responsibility to cover all your vehicle replacement and medical costs, if not how about your own insurance company?

I believe her insurance company will cover all the costs. Our insurance company, GEICO, is prosecuting her insurance company.

Hopefully it will work out in my favor and she won't lie.

Hope so, but she will lie, 100%. My previous car was hit when the other driver was driving on the wrong side of the road, she promised to tell the truth blah blah blah but she lied to the insurance company anyway, so I had to fight my insurance company to get my car fixed.

Driving on the wrong side of the road? Talk about not paying attention.

If you're wrong, admit it and grow from the experience. That's how you become a better person.

Too often pride, stupidity and selfishness get in the way.

The attorney's party, himself and his wife, were fine as well. They were heading to their grandson's baseball game.

As they were secondary victims of your and little miss' collision, I guess investigators will lean towards their view on who was running the red.

@ThroughandThrough, sorry to read about your accident. I'm glad your injuries aren't worse and wish you all the best. Pity most people forget that cars are made to drive and not to sms, whatsapp or whatever in it with there phones.

@ThroughandThrough, commiserations on the accident, wishing you a speedy recovery and an all-OK outcome. Sorry man - shit happens but it wasn't your fault.
Texting* and driving is a modern day scourge of motoring and, in my opinion, is far more insidious even than drink-driving. Why?
- Scores more people text and drive than drink and drive
- People text and drive all hours of the day, every day of the week whereas drink-driving patterns have a higher frequency on specific days and times.
- Texting and driving TAKES YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD. Don't do it!

* Texting universally applied to Facebooking, sms'ing, chatting, face-timing etc.

Over here in Europe too. Fines are high when they see a phone in a driver's hand.
Hands free is no problem though, obviously.

Over here in Holland they are about to ban phone usage on bikes, too.

Well that's likely not going to stop :)

Yes, even when the cyclist is wrong.

Exactly. It's common sense, really, if the cyclist is wrong then the cyclist has to be punished. Simple as that. How come none of these usef#ckingless politicians ever thought about that? Why the f#ck do we pay them for?!

It's totally unfair to punish motorists when just about every single cyclist has a death wish. I could write about a very long book about the many times I had to brake hard and honk my horn to avoid a cyclist suddenly crossing in front of me. Cyclists are like bird shit. You don't know where they will be coming from and when they are coming from.

Ok guys I have my fair share of run ins with cyclists but lets just focus back on our member here and hope he recovers quickly and have this sorted out by the insurance.
