Moving to Berlin, where do I buy modified cars?

Hi all

Soon I will be coming to your land from Australia and I will be wanting to buy a performance car in a country I can actually drive it fast. I currently own a Nissan Skyline R33 GTST Series 2 modified to 240KW (which is plenty when you can only go 100km/h if you are lucky.

A large part of the reason I am moving to Germany is cars :P

I have been on Autoscout.de but I am noticing an almost complete lack of modified cars?

What am I missing?

Also, what do people do about top speed in cars? Because most cars in Australia at least are not engineered for top speed. Do people just get a new gearbox or extended 5th/6th gear?

Also if people could give me any information on insurance etc. I hear you price insurance by car power?

Anyhow, i'm moving to Berlin (indefinitely) just trying to do my research before I get there. If there is some other comprehensive resource for this, let me know, I looked but there is a lot of stuff out there.

Also I want to get my motorcycle licence and I don't have one in Australia either. I need someone to help guide me through the best way to get a motorcycle licence in Berlin. For example should I get my motorcycle learner in Australia first or will it not mean anything unless it is an actual licence.

Thanks so much for you help and I look forward to your responses :)

Not yet! waiting and waiting :( have to sell my car here and find a replacement housemate etc slow slow. I'm trying to do as much else as I can ahead of time to make up for time and prepare me for arrival.

Going to help me out where to buy modified cars?

Also curious to know what the common performance cars are around the place. Here you buy a cheap commodore or import (skyline/silvia/supra/lancer/impreza) and whack a turbo and supporting mods on it but i'm not sure how it goes in Germany.

Seems like your BMW, AUDI and MERC are a lot more popular but perhaps not in the race scene.

I have been using autoscout24.de to look at cars but I dislike that I can't sort by drive type. I would like to be able to sort by AWD.

What can you tell me Kolan?

My issue is where are the cars?! I can't find them for sale anywhere. Autoscout has no modified performance cars

Haha yes a decent chunk of me coming to Germany is to be able to drive without speed limit on the autobahn, frequent the nurburgring and slowly modify my car to perfection. I drive my car to the max as much as I can because I love it but the speed limits here are obviously appalling, spending most of my time doing 60km/h, 70km/h if i'm lucky unless I get onto the freeway i'm allowed to do maximum 100km/h. It's horrible.

Bring on 300km/h+ :D

Yes race scene haha, or whatever you call it. If it exists which I hope it does. People who build their cars for performance and take them to events drift/circuit etc. Community where people buy, sell, chat, meet and so forth.

I'm not talking about illegal street racing which takes place here on Princes Hwy late nights kind of thing.

Mobile is really good, other than that, check out local German enthusiast forums. The market for modified cars is always rather slim, at least when talking about cars that can't easily pass the official test. Some mods are allowed in the TÜV, others are simply in the shadow and they have their own market.

Ah mobile.de is looking a lot better. Yes I will have to get a grasp on what is legal and so forth and what you can get away with. Here the rules are strict but my car is completely illegal and I have had no problems.

I'd rather buy a car that is somewhat setup already than build from stock. Too much time etc and usually much more expensive.

My skyline for example I bought already with:
  • Very nice sound system
  • 18 inch rims
  • Upgraded brakes
  • Front and rear strut braces
  • 90mm turbo back exhaust
  • Heavy duty clutch
  • Front mount intercooler
  • Splitfire coilpacks
  • Upgraded fuel pump
  • Apexi Power FC engine management
  • Highflowed turbo
  • Tuned to 240kw
Only cost me $8,000

I wanted to get an R34 GTT until I realised they're the wrong hand drive :( haha
