Motortrend: Executive Privileges: Luxury Sport Sedan Comparison

I don't know why some people are surprised BMW won over the MB. The old BMW goes better, stops better, turns better and gets better consumption.

Haven't driven the new E Class, but I am not surprised. The E60 "goes" extremely well, very tight, drives much "smaller" than it is.

And now the F10 corrects the looks, can't wait to drive and see it IRL.:usa7uh:

Gosh, sometimes these magazines are starting to piss me off with their constant crap about how every car in this class needs to be sporty and handle like the 5-Series. STFU already, Motor Trend, BMW and Driver, Road and Track etc. :D

Are these morons even aware that people out there have different tastes? Some people like a car that is totally comfort oriented (GS) and some like a balance between comfort and sport (E-Class, RL (?)...) etc. etc. etc.

Actually, I can still live with Motor Trend and Road and Track. BMW and Driver on the other hand...

^You know you have the choice of not reading their opinion, especially when you already know they prefer the sportier drive. I am sure there are magazines like Consumer reports which cater to other tastes. :D. I can see how your critic is valid if the magazines where called 'Car and Passenger' or 'Road and Boulevard'.

Of course all that ignores that no where I have read the E60 has an uncomfortable ride.

I dont know why you get upset, you dont see me moaning when a carmagazine is deciding a winner based on comfort only (or do I? :D)
Not every carmagazine emphasize on sport therefore we need magazines like these.
People have different taste thats why we need carmagazines like MT as well and not only comfort oriented magazines. Then it would be boring and uninteresting.
I suggest you keep reading Automotorsport or Autobild ;) and let us thats interested how a car drive enjoy tests like these.

That's the truth. Try selling the "sport" angle to my dad with a family sedan and he'll pimp smack you silly. He is like "if I want a ******* sports car, I'll buy one"

Lol...Why do people get upset over comfort? If I plan on driving a car 50k miles plus and drive it everyday I "BETTA" be comfortable. I'm not concerned about it swinging around a corner (as long as it doesn't flip). Heck I can do that with my truck. I want comfort. Unless its a sports car. Then that is strictly for joy riding.

These are sedans, yes they need to have sporty charateristics, but they should be comfortable as well. If I get out the car and my butt is in extreme pain, then I don't want it.

But he is not reading 'car and driver' or road and track' either, is he?

I haven't driven every single car in this test but I doubt any of these cars are uncomfortable. All cars in this test have a mix between sport/comfort.

I've driven many cars in my life but I have never experienced extreme pain in my butt :t-rot: you are funny HoH :D

You are talking as if E60 is some track car like GT3. It is not. It manages to be comfortable and be a better handling car.

He doesn't read it all the time. Hell, I can't even tell you the last time I even opened up a car magazine, so that's a moot point. My dad might not be a car fanatic like most of us on here, but he sure as hell knows more than the average person. My family's business for the past 60 years in india has been cars, and he spent a good amount of his days driving most of them. ;)

I feel sorry for people who decide which car to buy based on one single cartest. If they do and dont like 'sport' then Motortrend just told them that a 5-series is not a car for them, instead they should choose a car from the bottom list, like the Acura or Lexus.

I am not questioning your dad's knowledge of cars :). Just pointing out your dad who don't value 'sportiness' is not the target market for these magazines which do emphasize sportiness.

What I'm saying is that it doesn't matter. Basically, if you buy your car based on a "car test" done by journalists with their personal biases, then you're an idiot. Pretty much every car magazine out there is biased towards sportiness, hell, speed and sportiness is the main reason people are into cars anyways. How many people have you head say "Oh, I love cars because of nice buttons"? People like cars because of the thrills they get out of it, and in 99% of cases, it's sportiness.

So, for majority of the people out there who don't give crap about the marginal sportiness of cars, most of these "road tests" are just plain dumb, and provide no information that is TRULY useful in making your decisions. The main reason, IMO, people should read these tests is for the fine details that these journo's provide that you would otherwise miss on your own. Example: Like few of the functionality inside Command, iDrive or MMI, that people would miss because they won't read the manuals.

So, besides my dad, in actuality, most people are not in the target market of these magazines...and those who are in the target market, know enough to make their own decisions. Example...I sure as hell know that the M45 is more "sporty" than the GS, RL, A6 or the CTS. How? Because I've driven them all.

From the Cars I've driven:

1. M45
2. CTS
3. RL
4. A6
5. GS

The above result is based purely on sportiness of the cars.

I haven't driven the latest E, 535 or the Jag.

Naruto, no one here said anything about buying cars based on a 'car test'. Not even this article claims that. So you are just knocking down windmills with that argument.

Naw...I wasn't talking about the E60 comfort. I drove the car and it is very comfortable. I was just talking in general about people who act like they don't want any type of comfort in their car.

Well, the reason these magazines exist, besides providing entertainment, is to offer "advice" on what car you should purchase...that's why I said what I said.

Saving the best three for last, then :D

May be. But I'll say this...

MB: Easiest to get a test drive.
BMW: A*holes when it comes to test drive...they want to call my insurance and sh!t "Just in case". I'm like "dude, I Just drove a 100K S-class" they are like "that doesn't matter". No one else has EVER asked me for proof of insurance to go on a 5-10 min test-drive.
Jag: Been to the dealership, got completely ignored once, never been back again.
