The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.

It's fitting in this Olympics year to use an athletic metaphor to describe the all-new 2009 BMW 7 Series, which comes to America next spring in 750i and 750iL trims. After our first drive of the new luxury sedan, in advance of its public debut at this October's Paris auto show, the best comparison we can make to the realm of heated blood and straining muscle is to call the fifth-generation 7 Series a champion pentathlete.

To most Americans an obscure sport (the U.S. has never won a medal since it was added to the Olympics in 1912), the modern pentathlon requires the most varied skills of any competition: shooting an air pistol, wielding an epee, swimming 200 meters freestyle, jumping a horse over a dozen demanding obstacles, and running three grueling cross-country kilometers. This sounds like a day in the life of an officer of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the physical acumen demanded of these performers also reminds us of the all-around excellence required to be counted among the world's most accomplished automobiles.

Yes the interior is nice, kinda like an upscale version of the X6 which was unti now BMW's best interior.

Great review -- you know I'm a Merc fan ...but I would probably choose this over the S class.

...and this interior is really beautiful.

Haven't considered you a Merc fan for quite some time Rob. :t-banghea he he j/k.

The interior is undeniably attractive with some cool details. One issue that bugs the hell out of me however is the large gap on the left hand side of the glove box. It's unacceptably big.

Yes it indeed is unique, now that the E65 is out of production. :D

LOL. The S interior was undoubtedly 'inspired' by the E65.

Seriously though, that gap is LARGE. You don't see gaps that large in any S or A8 interior. But maybe it's exagerated in photos and not so apparent in person.
 
That Gap has to be large. Because of the angle of the dashboard, a flush fit with that joint is impossible if not extremely difficult. The gap is there to stop the slightest misalignment of the glovebox from rendering it useless. It is simply part of the engineering of the car.

Have to ppl not seen the extremely large gap on the very front of the S Class dash. Where the big plastic doors are situated. Same instance. Deal with it

Could be a combination of what you say... AND there's a good chance that these are the first batches of press cars. CAn't really see the gap as well in this picture, although it's a different angle. Trust me, this is what I do for a living more or less. They'll get better.
