Audi R8 GT

"It's rude to stare, but with the R8, I just can't help myself," says Sanchez. "This is the perfect gentleman's car, and it exudes pure seduction. The R8 is as sexy as an expertly tailored men's suit that shows off a chiseled male physique. With a 5.2-liter V-10, it's not just a pretty face. The more exclusive 5.2 GT churns out a thrilling 560 hp, and can sprint from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds -- just enough time to steal my heart."

MT Take: "The power is mesmerizing, and on-ramps blow by in an orchestral blur of sound and fury. Sitting low in the R8 gives you the sensation of being down in the car, not on top of it. You never feel like you are being pulled out of the seat by your shoulders, but more like you're checking your hip in the side of the car. The R8 rolls around you, not under you. Audi managed to capture the feeling of sitting down in the tub of a Le Mans race car. You really can trick yourself into thinking you're charging out of the last corner on the last lap to take the checkered flag, when in reality you are just heading to the store for milk. It's all about the experience."

Classic Cars

Also on LaPalme's list are 1950s Corvettes, Porsches, Jaguars, or Mercedes (particularly the Gullwing). "To me, this symbolizes not only an appreciation for history, but for classic beauty and styling," she says. "It also signifies that he's dedicated to the care and maintenance that a classic vehicle requires to keep it reliable as a daily driver, or that he has other vehicles in the garage to serve that purpose. That shows commitment, which is undoubtedly an attractive quality."

Lexus LFA

"The LFA is rare, great-looking and great-sounding," says Manfredi. A product 10 years in the making, the LFA is a truly a work of art. Toyota took its time perfecting this racer: A sketch was unveiled in 2000, and then it appeared in the flesh as a teaser car at the 2005 Detroit show. Two years later came a revised concept. Finally, the 2012 beast was finally unleashed. Priced at a shocking $400,000, this supercar is sure to have women and men alike gawking.

MT Take: "First impression: The LFA rides hard. Really hard. No variable shocks; the chassis is chef's choice only. On smoother stretches of autobahn, the stiffness is largely irrelevant, but it's not hard to imagine the LFA growing tiresome during extended drives on brittle roads. The V-10 is scintillating: It pulls very hard, flaunts seemingly hidden torque (that light package), and propels the car ferociously (Toyota claims a 0-to-60 of 3.6 seconds and a top end of 204 mph). At 6000 rpm it's just screaming away -- with 3000 rpm left!"

Porsche Cayman S

"I love, love, love the Porsche Cayman S, manual, preferably in Atlas Gray Metallic with the 19-inch Carrera Classic wheels. It has 320 hp, 273 lb-ft, and a 171-mph top track speed. In my dream, he'd hand me the keys any time I wanted - which would be all the time," says Sandoval.
Good luck. The driver of this car would want to keep those keys all to himself to enjoy the Cayman's 0-60 average of 4.5 seconds, thanks in part to its direct-injected 3.4-liter engine.

MT Take: "The risk Porsche engineers have taken all along with the Cayman is that, sooner or later, they'd dial its performance up so high its natural advantage in mid-engine balance and trimmer-scale would finally propel it into outshining the iconic 911 Carrera. Personally, I think that moment has arrived. Lithe on the road, fluidly seductive in appearance, and positively alive in your hands: It's now, in my humble opinion, very simply the best sports car in the world."

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0

Ngo says, "There's only one word to describe this: Sexy! Seeing a man in a high-performance sports car makes my knees weak and my heart swoon!"
That's not to mention its alluring backside. The 3.8-liter flat-six that hangs over the rear axle blasts the RS to a top speed of 193 mph, and its lap time of 23.4 seconds resulted in one of the top 10 best times MT has ever recorded, bundled with the Corvette Z1R and Nissan GT-R.

MT Take: "Your dad warned you about this Porsche. Don't let its red lipstick and wide hips persuade you, he said, because the only thing that follows that car is trouble. Speeding tickets, too. But you can't help yourself. That roof-high wing perched on aluminum struts, those foot-wide rear tires, and those red wheels (red wheels!) keep piquing your interest."

Range Rover HSE

Yang thinks this luxurious SUV shows off a well-established man with fine taste. "It's not too masculine and it's well-equipped for a family outing or a night on the town for two."
But the lavish SUV can also get a little dirty, thanks in part to the Terrain Response upgrades. Sand launch control and Rock Crawl mode will allow this admirable family man to take the kids into the mountains for a weekend of camping.

MT Take: "The new Range Rover continues the vehicle's heritage of off-road prowess and ritzy cabin, and while pricing has not yet been announced, you know it won't be cheap. However, you can expect it won't be too much more expensive than the outgoing model and, as good as it was, now has a lot more to offer than it ever has before."

Audi R8 GT & Lexus LFA - Cars That Catch Girls' Eyes - Motor Trend

I disagree so bad. Girls (the ones who know nothing about cars) don't know what a "GT3-RS" is. Sorry, they just don't. If you showthem the Cayman and the GT3-RS, the only thing they would use to gauge the difference might be the spoiler on the GT3. The Lexus also cuts it short. Yes, the design is exotic, but it still doesn't scream supercars likeother cars do. In superficial terms, its still just a Lexus. The R8 does have massive curb appeal though.

This would be more like it:

These all evoke much more, IMO.

Bear in mind that the result isn't a random poll of some girls just off the street. It was a poll among female Motor Trend staffers, which explains why some could pick out specific flavors of BMW (E46) and Porsche (930). One thing of note is that on the first page of the article, there are quite a lot of trucks and SUVs, so it's clear their idea, coming from an American perspective, of a fantasy vehicle differs greatly from most who would populate a forum centered around European (German, specifically) luxury and performance cars. The entry for the Land Rover Defender is quite revealing:
"It shows that the guy likes driving something that's unique -- he isn't afraid to be different."

Most guys like us would understand and see something like the 458 as more classically beautiful than an LFA, with a nameplate steeped in F1 prestige. But your typical woman, even one working for a general-audience motor mag like Motor Trend, probably doesn't know much about F1. Show a picture of Lewis Hamilton in a tailored suit and chances are good she'll recognize him as that guy dating a Pussycat Doll, or as a character from Cars 2. This is where a guy driving an R8 GT or LFA can stand out: These are not the obvious supercar choices. The 458 is no doubt exceptionally capable, but there's also something that says "I go for the safe choice." It's lacking a bit of imagination, in that respect. The girls on Motor Trend staff have probably seen the LFA up close, maybe even been inside of it, have heard it rev its crazy engine. They might not look at it only in superficial terms. They will know this is no regular Lexus, or even a regular supercar, at all.

As Autocar, TopGear, and Evo found, the LFA is visually arresting even in the company of the 458:

"Even though pictures of the LFA have been circulating for years, and personally I've seen the car in the carbonfibre before, nothing prepares you for the sight of the Lexus on home ground, mixed in among everyday traffic. In our collection there are more beautiful shapes and brighter colours, but without a doubt the most striking shape is the LFA. It looks like it has arrived from Mars, circa the year 2050."
--Autocar group test w/458, GT3 RS, M600

"It's the number one crowd-stopper and though not all the people we speak to like it, everyone wants to know how much it costs, and are naturally rather surprised to hear that it's 340 big ones."
--TopGear group test w/458, GT3 RS, SLS, LP570-4

"The LFA looks amazing: heavily haunched, low-slung and intriguingly detailed.
Wins exhaust note of the year test. And the dash display of the year test. And...well, you get the message.'
Never has a car better cloaked its inner specialness: from the dashboard theatre to the noise, to the sliver of titanium you use to engage reverse, it is the most special feeling car since the Macca F1.
There really is nothing else in the world quite like the Lexus LFA. It is more special and intriguing than the 458 and demonstrates an extraordinary level of passion and commitment.
It's a beautiful thing, all the details, and it has all the integrity and functionality of a Lexus. Feels like a step up from anything else here. Very, very special"

--eCOTY 2010

I think even Ferrari-minded girls will find much to like about the Lexus.

But really, though. The article's just for fun. If we think we can ever understand what women really like...joke's on us.

Yea, its all in good fun :)

But i'd disagree. If they were talking about the girls who had an interest in cars, then this list would be pointless. A girl who knows and has an interest in cars is the same as a guy (IMO, and if its figures that they like). I THINK they mean top 5 cars to people who don't know anything about them, but that's just me.

I have seen it twice and parked right beside other exotics in the local car show. Ofcourse your assumption is incorrect that LFA attracts no attention, which is completely opposite to what happens in real life.

The other exotics were as if it never existed as all people flocking around the LFA. Again, it is not hearse. I saw and men, women and children right around me. It has massive presence in real life despite being a very short and small car.

I love the LFA. If you look at the dream garage thread, I have it as one of the cars I'd like. But if you show the LFA to someone who knows absolute nil about cars, I'd reckon they'd like a Ferrari or lamborghini more. Take my mom for example. If I showed her a pic of a Ferrari California (obviously inferior) and compared it to the LFA, she'd automatically label the Ferrari as superior simply because of brand catchet. On a similar note, the design will still seem "cheaper" to my mom, simply because the closest thing to the LFA from Lexus is the LS, which really isnt a looker. Unfortunately, where I live, Lexus is just seen as a rebadged toyota. It's almost like Coach making a really nice, edgy purse. No matter how nice it is, the common consumer is still going to like a Chanel or LV bag more. Just my 2cents.

Yes, I know the type of people you are talking about. I know quite a few of them personally. They are called "brand loyalists" who would believe nothing Lexus can ever produce that can compete with a Ferrari even if it is a California and yes they can make distinctions between differrent brands quite well even if they don't know much about the cars at all. I cannot count how many times I have heard "Dude, even a 430 would smack the hell out of the LFA back into last week".

The one's I have seen who were flocking around the LFA were every day regular joe people who would never be able to afford an exotic and know nothing about exotics. LFA's presence mainly is attributed to its unique styling while all others follow almost the same design language especially when seen all parked together. That is what draws unassuming and regular people who know nothing about exotics.

I found this video that illustrates my point the best. The exact behavior I had seen at my local car shows around the LFA. If you notice closely, there is a Ferrari 458 Italia parked just beside the LFA. That is exactly what I saw in real life

Absolutely stunning car, only problem would be what color to ge it in. If Lexus would only make something hot for regular folks they would come up big time when it comes to prestige and status. They need something else in the lineup to tie this car in with.

This is ridiculous. Who here knows "average/non car fan" girls? If you do, you'll know that these models are meaningless. Design goes so far, but it's gotta have a recognizable brand name/badge for the non-car fan girls to really admire. Porsche is Porsche, a "GT3" won't mean much difference than a clean and nice 911 Carrera to the average girl. Just like my E350 is no less "eye catching" to an average girl than an E63 is.

I gotta agree with deity....any random chick who doesn't know much or anything about cars will easily dismiss a Lexus vs. Ferrari, Lamborghini, or an Aston. The Italians and Aston just have been more established and have been deeply entrenched in the general public's mind as the de facto "cars to be seen in." Without knowing the details about the LFA, such as how everything is bespoke or special, they will not notice it beyond the heavenly noise it emits. If they are a gearhead, then that might be a different story. But I would wager she would gravitate to something that has a shield with either a prancing horse or a bull versus a stylized L.

That said, as a dude, I want the LFA! Black with smoked wheels and gold or red calipers....it'll look soooooo evil. :D

EDIT: I hope the female populace is not easily influenced by Paris Hilton. If they are, then god help us all.

This Motor Trend video clearly shows why the women at Motor Trend were so head over heels for the LFA
