Seres SF5 has 694 hp and 1040 Nm

Seres is a new Chinese EV brand owned by SF Motors, which in turn is owned by Chongqing Sokon Industry Group.

Their first car is the Seres SF5, a sporty crossover. It is very powerful.

Four electric motors are good for a combined output of 694 hp and 1040 Nm. 0-100 takes 3.5 seconds and top speed is 250 km/h. Range is 500 kilometers NEDC. There will be a long-range version too, with a range of "500+" kilometers, a 230 km/h top speed, and a 0-100 in 4.8 seconds. Battery pack is 90 kWh, with an energy density of 160Wh/kg, which is rather high.

In the near-future, Seres will also launch a hybrid range-extender version (EVR), with a gasoline engine mated to two electric motors.

The interior comes with a 17 inch touch screen and a digital dashboard. The operating system is Alibaba's ALiOS 2. Size: 4700/1930/1629, and wheelbase is 2875.

Very impressive, and it is not some fuzzy concept; the Seres SF5 is real. Pre-production has started and deliveries will start late this year. Next up are a seven-seat SUV, a sedan, and a MPV.

Bordrin EV brand launched in China, with 2 cars.

The name of the brand is Bojun. The English name is #Bordrin, or Bordrin Motor for full.

They are based in Beijing with subs in Shanghai, Huai'an, and Nanjing. They are working on their own factory, but that will take them a while. In the meantime, their cars will be produced by FAW-Jilin, a subsidiary of state owned First Auto Works (#FAW).

They had a big 'brand night' in Beijing where they launched 2 cars: one production car and a concept car.

The production car is called the Bodrin V6, a sleek full-electricvconcept-coupe that looks a tad too much like the Tesla Model 3. The company claims an NEDC range of 600 kilometers from a 90 kWh battery pack. The V6 will launch on the Chinese car market in 2020.

The concept cars is called the Bodrin V7, a large full-electric SUV. The company claims a range of 700 kilometers for this one. It actually looks pretty much ready for production as well, with an interesting drive-selector, mounted behind the steering wheel, like an old-school American column-mounted shifter.

Xpeng Makes 10,000th Car Amid Plans for New Fundraising Round

Xpeng Motors, the Chinese electric carmaker planning another fundraising round, said it has produced 10,000 sport utility vehicles.



The company, which is backed by e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., said in a statement it made its 10,000th G3 SUV in the city of Zhengzhou.



Among the hundreds of EV startups in China, NIO Inc. and WM Motor Technology Co. are among the few to have hit the same volume production mark.

AIWAYS About To Send Prototype U5 Battery Electric SUV On 14,000-Km Drive To Europe

AIWAYS, a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider, is poised to embark on what is believed to be the longest point-to-point drive of a prototype electric vehicle ever attempted. Its U5 battery-electric SUV will carry out a 14,231-km drive from Xi’an in China to Europe starting next week.

The initiative is part of the comprehensive test and development programme for the first vehicle of its kind to be launched by a Chinese brand in Europe when it arrives in April 2020. The route chosen is from the start of the Silk Road and has historical significance as a hub for trading, cultural exchange and communication between China and Europe.


Extreme testing to meet demands of customers
AIWAYS is subjecting the U5 to extreme conditions which will be encountered along the journey to ensure it delivers the real-world performance, reliability and range demanded by European consumers. The engineering team will also explore how simple and easy it is to live with the U5, driving and recharging as they pass through different countries where temperatures, road conditions and available charging infrastructures differ considerably.

The U5 is a mid-size SUV built on the company’s innovative aluminium-steel More Adaptable Structure (MAS) platform. It is claimed to have a range of 460 kms on a fully-charged battery pack. Its price is expected to be in the region of €25,000 (equivalent to about RM116,000).

To be built at a new production plant in Jiangxi Province, the U5 is the first of a range of electrically-powered family SUVs. AIWAYS plans to introduce one new model to its range each year. Initial production output is planned at 150,000 units a year with a second phase of expansion planned to bring capacity to 300,000 units.

AIWAYS is a Sino-German company which has the involvement of Roland Gumpert, a former Audi engineer who led the team that campaigned the Audi Quattro in the World Rally Championship in the 1980s.

One of the prototypes being prepared for the journey to Europe which starts next week.

Saab faced bankruptcy in 2011 before the company shut its doors in 2012. The Swedish car manufacturer would only live on in the used car markets and no vehicles were set to be ever produced again. This was until the 2013 when National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) acquired most of the assets from Saab to allow the powertrain and skeleton of the cars to be used under a new name as well as the factory they were produced in. Now NEVS has begun production of its fully-electric version of the old 9-3.

The cars are been put together at a factory in the port city of Tianjin and the factory there has a capacity to build 50,000 units per year.


NEVS is owned by the Evergrande Group, who is yet to share any details about the new Saab-based electric sedan.

Evergrande Group bought a controlling share, of 51 per cent, in NEVS in January for 6.4 billion yuan ($932 million).

When NEVS produces its first EV it will use the parts bought un the acquisition of Saab.

The launch of the EV 9-3 is expected to acceleration NEVS’ timetable to produce cars in other Chinese cities.

NEVS’ parent company has also acquired Shanghai-based EV battery supplier CENAT New Energy and two overseas electric motor makers.

Xpeng Motors boosts range of G3 electric SUV

The Chinese electric car startup Xpeng Motors is launching an updated version of its G3 SUV, which was only launched in December 2018. The electric SUV for the Chinese market now features CATL batteries with higher power density.

The new cells will increase the range from around 350 NEDC kilometres to up to 520 km. Xpeng states that the energy density is 180 Wh/kg, which is the highest value for a Chinese electric car to date. The charging time to 80 per cent should be 30 minutes.

In addition to the G3 520, Xpeng will also offer the G3 400, which has an NEDC range of 401 kilometres. The prices for the G3 400 start at 143,800 Yuan (18,550 Euro), the G3 520 costs at least 196,800 Yuan, i.e. 25,390 Euro. Deliveries of the 2020 model year will start in September.

In addition to the battery, the manufacturer has also revised other parts of the G3, although the car was not launched on the market until the end of 2018. This includes a better suspension tuning, which should offer more control and increase driving comfort. In addition, the brake on the rear axle has been enlarged to reduce the braking distance from 100 km/h to less than 37 meters. The XPILOT 2.5, a comprehensive package of driving assistants, is also available as an option. With the ALC (Automatic Lane Change) function, the G3 should be able to evaluate traffic and road conditions in real time and change lanes automatically by simply activating the indicator.

Chinese start-up Human Horizons unveils radical electric SUV concept
Bold new firm tabs ex-Jaguar Land Rover special projects boss to head development of SUV, due in 2021

Chinese start-up Human Horizons, whose technical team is led by the former boss of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, has unveiled a radical electric SUV concept called the HiPhi 1.

The machine closely previews the new firm’s first production car, which it says is due on sale within two years.


Human Horizons describes itself as a technology company that's focusing on “smart vehicles, smart transportation and smart cities”. It plans to develop a range of machines for the growing Chinese premium EV market, designed for both private owners and shared use, featuring advanced autonomous systems and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication.

The HiPhi 1 concept is the first car the firm has revealed. Technical development has been led by Mark Stanton, who formerly worked for both Ford and Jaguar Land Rover.

The machine features 562 sensors to offer ‘higher-level autonomy’ using V2X communication systems. It will also monitor the interior using facial recognition cameras and even smell sensors to detect unwanted odours.

The HiPhi 1 features nine power-operated doors, flaps and stowage compartments, including gullwing-opening rear doors, and a handleless entry system that uses a facial recognition system matched to a smartphone.

There will be a number of different modes for accessing it, including a ‘superstar’ setting that opens all the roof and door systems. There's also a ‘parade’ mode that will allow the car to move slowly with the gullwing flaps raised.

The exterior design has been informed by Chinese tastes, with a tall crossover design and a large, coupé-like glasshouse. Human Horizons says the lack of a combustion engine has allowed the front bulkhead to be pushed much further forward than in a conventional car, with the 5.2-metre overall length – similar to that of a long wheelbase Range Rover – allowing huge interior space.

The HiPhi 1 also features fins designed to direct airflow at the trailing edge of the rear doors and a similar channel built into the front wing; Human Horizons boss Kevin Chen says that these have been inspired by aircraft and promote high-speed stability, with the car having a drag co-efficient of 0.28Cd.

The HiPhi also features smart headlights capable of beaming patterns onto road or walls, with examples including a zebra crossing effect to show pedestrians that it's safe to cross. The larger panels beneath the lighting units contain hundreds of LEDs and are capable of displaying patterns or even messages.

The interior features three rows of two seats, all of which are power-operated and can be switched into numerous configurations.

The car’s structure incorporates both high-strength steel and aluminium, with the battery compartment under the floor. The dashboard is largely formed of display screens, with a digital instrument pack, portrait-orientated touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard and another in front of the passenger for playing media. It also features a camera-based rear-view system, although this isn’t currently legal in China.

Stanton, who leads a team of around 400 engineers, said both rear and four-wheel-drive versions will be offered, the latter with a pair of 268bhp motors and a 0-62mph time of around 3.9sec. Differently sized battery packs will also be offered, with the biggest 96kWh unit giving a range of up to 400 miles with the rear-drive powertrain under the NEDC testing protocol.

Stanton wouldn't give a weight figure but confirmed that we can expect something so large and highly specified to be more than two tonnes.

While there are no plans to sell the HiPhi 1 outside China in the short term, the firm has global ambitions in the longer term. Pricing is yet to be set, but the HiPhi 1 is likely to be at the higher end of the Chinese EV market. Deliveries are due to being in 2021. Production will take place in a plant – currently being refitted – that was formerly used by Kia’s Chinese joint venture partner.
