Monster's car shopping

Congrats. Funny enough my partner wanted a white car with a red ribbon! What a dreamy way of taking delivery.

Do you have a spec list?

Thanks Luw. I didn't know when dealers started putting giant red ribbons on cars but it sure look a bit dreamy like you said. Apparently it is a popular thing to do now? Did your dealer place one on your X3 when you take delivery?

The C 250 are relatively well equipped on the Australian Market, so the car has most of the comfort features (eg keyless entry, ambient lighting, parking sensors, leather seats) and all active safety features as standard.

My car has 2 optional packages:

1) AMG pack, besides the usual chassis modifications and wheels, it also gets the black wood trim, IMO that is a must because I really dislike the standard gloss black center console. It also include tyre pressure sensors, which is only available with this package.

2) Comfort pack, which includes full electrical adjustments for the seats and steering with memory and heating function.

I miss out on the 2 other packages:

1) Vision pack, which includes the adaptive LED headlights, glass roof and head up display

3) COMMAND pack, which includes the full screen display and the Burmester sound system.

Nope. I didn't have a ribbon on my car but was contemplating calling the dealer to have one put on!

Your car will be fantastic to drive. As you are aware I test drove the GLC 220d and found the drive train to more linear and refined than on the X3. The handling was good too and overall I couldn't fault the car. The C250 should mirror those qualities but with added agility. I was going to buy a GLC 220d AMG with the COMMAND pack. What I like about Mercedes is that the cars are well kitted and all you need is to tick a pack to get a lot more tech. With BMW you have to tick a pack, if not several, and a few other options for a car to be decent. Before you know it, the price has taken a big jump!

I'm surprised that tyre pressure sensors are only available with the AMG pack. Would you know why?

I'm glad you car doesn't have piano gloss. I have gloss copper trim and give it weekly wipe with a micro fiber cloth. Unlike a fake-wood trim, tiny scratches from keys and mobile phones are a bit more visible, which is a small annoyance.

You should have, when my friend picked up his Passat wagon, the dealer did this...

Maybe only Australian dealers do this on car delivery.

So far I have only driven it back home and around the block. The one thing that stood out the most is the steering, it is very quick and direct. The suspension felt very solid, even though I have the car in comfort mode. The car feels well connected so it should be pretty fun to drive once the run in period is over.

I suppose the option packages are good and bad, but I totally agree with you on BMW's arrangement with optional equipment. When I was getting a quote, I had to select options upon options, as well as other related packages for a 328i Wagon. The final price was $93k...that is the same price as the new M2...

I know Mercedes Australia has only recently switch to ordering cars with optional packages, and it is really up to MB Australia to select which items to include in the bundle. I have no idea why tire pressure sensor is only available with the AMG pack, same with the black ash wood. Or why do they bundle the adaptive LED lights with the sun roof. Apparently things are different for Mercedes Taiwan, my friend recently bought a C 200 there and everything is optional, including the active safety features.

I am not a fan of gloss trim either, as you have said it is difficult to maintain, does the copper color help mask the dust and finger prints?

A small update, fuel consumption in horrific Sydney traffic. 20L/100km. I suppose it is to be expected for a new engine.

Did the whole washing, clay baring and applied paint sealant and wax over last weekend.

Do you have start stop on all the time? Try it without, see if there's a difference.

I forgot to mention I switched off the stop start feature, I prefer not to have the engine stopping and starting again ever few min. Besides that, the car was in comfort mode all the time. I have completely forgotten about the econ mode, I should have selected that next time.
