You know for the life of me, I can't work out why they had to put those barn-style doors in the the tailgate instead of a conventional upwardly hinging hatch. The nett effect is a back-end that looks fussy, will be more prone to torsional twisting creaks and obstructs rearward visibility.

This car has too many shutlines and window apetures and I just can't dig the looks in the same way I do a straight ol' Cooper S. Blech - is what I'm anticipating saying in the official thread.

I thought the same thing regarding the frame-flex, but I like the looks of the swing-out doors in the back. The question, I guess, is whether after living with it for awhile, whether my affection for the looks of it would trump the frame-flex problem. If indeed, there is a problem with frame-flex - I guess they could run small box members around the door shutlines, extend steel web fingers into the areas around the door hinges, etc. I'm not posessed of any design skills, so I'm merely guessing that those type of reinforcements would be possible around the doors without running up the price too awfully much.

I don't know - I guess I'm of two minds about it. The problem is, you wouldn't know how much of a flex problem you have until you get quite a few miles on it.

Whilst BMW amp up the "Efficient Dynamics" Angle on it's modern energy management concept ... What happens to the MINI division that will help BMW achieve it's european c02 targets?

At the IAA in Frankfurt in September alongside the world premiere of the MINI Clubman , MINI will have alongside it a Concept of the Clubman production car but basically will showcase modern energy management ideas for the MINI Brand. This is similar to the Premiere of the MINI at Frankurt 2001 where BMW showcased a Hydrogen powered "Clean Energy" MINI Cooper.

Looks like a darn hearse! I don't know about the Clubman after all, will have to wait for official pics. As of now things aren't looking good, I was really really looking forward to this car.

I feel the same. My main problem with it is that the sides are so big and empty. It seem like have become used to shulder lines and flame surfacing.

Yeah. The lack of a character line makes the appearance of the side somewhat awkward, if not completely bland when comparing this model to the Cooper, which can do with out a character line because of it's shorter length that compensates for the lack of a character line.

The problem is all-black-on-all-black combination of this prototype:

black body, black fenders, black rocker panels, black bumpers, black roof, ...

Wait to see more normal color combinations.

Also a Cooper in such color combination (all in black) looks weird ...

:usa7uh:

i have seen the car in person and i have to say that it is a real stunner
i really would like to congratulate bmw on this one, if the marketing is right(which i expect) its going to be a huge hit for the mini brand
i just hope that they can also work this out for the mini suv

It's a BMW product, better yet it's a MINI. Of course it will be a hit.:t-cheers: :D

i'm just raising this question, because what i have heard is the Mini SUV(Moke?) based on the platform of X1 and i'm really curious if they are able to separate those to vehicles far enought from each other
but anyways, i don't want to go too of topic

The MINI -Max - MINI-Activity-CrossOver . We do no have licence for Moke as of current.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
