Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

Awesome interior.

Still not fond of the exterior metal though.

Here're some more photo's.
I wonder how long it will take until Mercedes will start using LED technology in their cars' headlights.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

I like this car. It has a nice, clean shape which is traditionally Mercedes yet reasonably modern. Those concept wheels are rather horrid, though.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

The concept looks so kitsche because of the detailing. The production vehicle on the Sex and the City set was far more attractive. It at least showed some design restraint. This looks vulgar.

The interior is most definitely inspired by Range Rover, but with quite a dose of the new C in there for good measure. I wonder how it will translate into a production interior and how much of the wow (again kitsche) factor will be lost. Like the exterior I feel the interior of the concept is a bit over the top and will actually be better in the production version.

With the interiors of the new CLK and E, I hope they bridge the design gap between the S and CL set and now this GLK and C set to bring some consistency to the range. The disparity is astounding, even if the interior designs have been heavily influenced by market demographics.

Darn! ... This looks awesome. Get rid of those ugly rims ASAP before unveiling.
Looks much better without those thickies. The lines flow very nicely from this angle.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

Looks much much better than a X3.With proper detailing this SUV will look really good, the one captured in the S&C sets was too plain Jane.IMO a different color cladding is very very important for this vehicle to look good.

Well the Sex and the City one is the production version, which for obvious reasons is more plain than this concept. Should still be a striking SUV.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

I wonder if they will offer an option for lights on the roof rack as an option that would be pretty neato.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

Gone for production will be the rims, two toned exterior, white interior, and zebra wood, and led fogs.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

I wonder if the S-class type of Speedo on the Concept will make it to the production car:

I'd take my GLK in black with beige interior and piano wood, alternatively with the wood below. The chrome accentuate through the panels will accentuate the wood nicely.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

The metal painting make it looks really cheap, the all white production car seems much better.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

I wonder if the S-class type of Speedo on the Concept will make it to the production car:

The speedo of the concept is a regular speedo straight off the C, E CLK. The S's speedo is a monitor. The concept speedo will be the production one.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

i think the above pic just shows pple who like to 'judge' a car's interior standard by spy shots, something we've been getting a lot of on this forum. Just wait and see

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

BM, even Mercedes haters have gotta love the lights on the rack! 2 cool.

I know, I only hope it makes it into production at least for the AMG version.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

Don't count on it. It's a very expensive touch for a car in that price range.

I don't think the price is the problem but AFAIK lights on the roof rack are illegal for road use in many countries. :t-hands:

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is WAY better looking than the X3. Hopefully the next gen X3 will be better looking?

Re: Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK FREESIDE Concept @ 2008 NAIAS

Anyone else notice that in that 'spy' pic of the car, the nav screen is ala C class, which would have the pop-up nav screen. In the concept it seems they ditched that and went with the more conventional hump.

Yup. I think with the benefit of hindsight merc prob realises the c classe 'pop-ups' weren't exactly divine inspiration. No other model, upcoming or testing, seems to have it
