CLK-Class Mercedes to rename CLK to E-Class coupe and cabrio?

The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is a series of mid-size or entry-level luxury coupés and convertibles produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1996 and 2010. Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class, and was positioned between the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and CL-Class.
I just wish Mercedes would make a true E-Class coupe, based on the E-Class chassis not the C. Then make a true C-Class Coupe. That IMO would be the proper way to get rid of the CLK designation, but it seems that the "E-Class Coupe" will continue the practice of the current CLK, just called an E-Class Coupe. A smaller, real coupe (not a hatchback) based on the C-Class would be nice. All of this sounds risky, but I guess "CLK" has just never lived up to the standard set by the last real E-Class Coupe, the C124. Stylewise the 209 model certainly didn't. The C208 model is a classic IMO and not just because I own one.

What I'd really like to see is a new 190 sized/styled sedan based on the next A/B chassis replacement. Mercedes' retro car.

How well established is the CLK vs CE?

The "CE" name is theoretically better established since it first appeared on the W114 Coupes of the late 1960s, the C123 Coupes and the C124 Coupes / Convertibles. But with the modern audience these names have probably been forgotten and thus the nomenclature "CLK" could be more well known in todays world. :eusa_thin

I don't think they do really. My only thing is that a coupe based on the C-Class chassis means that not all of the E's features will be available. I like Airmatic in the E550, but a E550 Coupe might not have the same setup if based on a C-Class chassis. So maybe Mercedes is really going to do a E-Class coupe for real this time, based on the actual E-Class chassis. That would be really nice.
