According to published reports approximately 65,000 models of the series E-class-and-CLS-class, that were imported between February 2002 and April 2007, are reviewed in Japan, on leak in the gasoline tank. In the worst case, gasoline could emerge in the concerned vehicles - accidents would be however not well known.

No idea, they also say this:

The exact amount of the defective vehicles could not be confirmed by manufacturer-side. The call back would be restricted only on Japan, emphasized the Mercedes-speaker on demand on Monday (10.12.). In Germany, no models of the call back would be concerned.

Hopefully no recalls from the Germans for this year at least...

So there are 65.000 E+CLS in Japan, that is a bloody large amount of them in Japan. And why is the recall only limited to Japan? I remember a forum member from the US had problems with his E350's fuel tank as well. I think the car had the same problem as stated in the recall.
