Mercedes Maybach doing very well in sales

Mercedes-Benz is selling almost as many Maybach cars in China each month as it used to sell worldwide in a year, when it targeted the super-rich with a stand-alone model.

Chinese buyers are snapping up about 500 a month of the ultra-luxury variant of the Mercedes S-Class, which
starts at about 1.44 million yuan ($230,000) in China. That compares to a peak of 600 Maybach cars in 2003, which at the time cost more than $350,000.

Is it the Maybach or the power of the S class. I feel its the later. Anyway Mercedes this time had the right strategy for Maybach as the sub brand and hopefully will keep it to the S class or GLS. This is the proof that the S can also compete very effectively with Rolls Royce and Bentley. BMW and AUDI needed ultra premium brand for that niche market.

Wow so it's doing well I am sure MB directors must be smiling. The strategy seems to work as well as it should be profitable and build the MAYBACH brand and maybe next generation S Maybach will go even higher class.Well Done so far.

Yeah I'm still hoping for a truly bespoke Maybach one day. Maybe after they get Smart off life support and every Mercedes model is healthy they can turn their attention to a bespoke car to challenge the Phantom and Mulsanne.

M

MB might agree with you guys. They also planned to have a Mercedes-Benz Typ Maybach, and that's what Bruno Sacco and his team designed. The concept shown in 1997 in Tokyo also had the Mercedes-Benz star on the hood.

Then, around 2000/2001 they did some customer clinics and folks could choose what they would prefer. The options were "Mercedes-Benz Typ 600", or "Mercedes-Benz Typ Maybach" or "Only Maybach" without Mercedes-Benz. To the great surprise of the developers most folks preferred Maybach without Mercedes-Benz, and thus around 2002, at the last minute before the introduction, they changed their plans.

Daimler is at times pretty crazy, and they definitely make mistakes. But they also try to learn from them... :)

^ That car with the strange headlight setup was more individualistic and kind of exotic IMO. The interior was also more attractive than the actual Maybach 57-62 with slabs of wood panels. And who did they survey? Unknown Maybach standalone brand over Mercedes-Benz brand with over 100 years of brand equity? I guess the first generation A class really tarnished the Mercedes brand image at that time.

They surveyed Kanye and Jay Z. Or was it Ja Rule and Nelly back then? Hmmmm

I wonder how much extra margin Mercedes makes on this new Maybach. It must be a pretty penny considering it comes off the S-class production line.

@Wolfgang, some members on here have reported delays on their S-coupes. Are the S production lines running at capacity?

New Mercedes-Maybach S600 beats sales target:

Zeal for the new Mercedes-Maybach S600, with a local price tag of 294 million won ($262,000), is heating up among corporate executives in Korea.

According to Mercedes-Benz Korea, the model of its premium S-Class line neared its yearly target of 200 units in June, just three months since its April launch.

“We introduced the two trims of S-Class cars with Maybach badges -- the Mercedes-Maybach S500 and S600 -- in April. The combined sales of the two models reached 192 units by the end of June, and about 150 customers are waiting for the delivery of their dream car,” a company official said.

China has led global sales of the renewed Maybach for the past year since the legendary premium automobile brand was reborn under the Daimler group in 2014. Now, neighboring Korea is adding fuel to its growth.

The success of the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach sedans was expected, based on the prestigious image of the Maybach brand in Korea. Maybach is widely known here for its nickname as the “chairman’s car” as Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee, the nation’s richest man, favored the brand.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600, armed with “ultimate” luxury and exclusivity, never disappointed ultraluxury car brand buyers.

The car boasts a longer exterior than other long-body S-Class cars, with a wheelbase that reaches 3.365 meters.

Despite the longer cabin, the Maybach’s rear doors are actually shorter than on the S-Class, because the triangular vent window in the trailing edge of the S-Class’s rear door is part of the C pillar on the Maybach. As a result, the rear seats are situated beyond the door cutout, which creates a feeling of exceptional privacy and exclusivity.

The same strengths are applied to the car’s interior, which is designed to offer passengers the comfort of a first-class flight cabin.

The car is designed to be chauffeur-driven, so the real sense of spaciousness is found in the back seat.

Like an aircraft seat, the center console is available with two tables that can be easily folded in or out with one hand.

For the rear-seat passenger, the “chauffeur” package also includes a footrest, which extends from under the front passenger seat. This allows a reclined position that sets new standards in the automotive sector with respect to sleeping and resting comfort.

Another highlight of the new Mercedes-Maybach S600 is silence. The company said it is the quietest sedan on the road ever.

For safety, like the S-Class vehicles, the sedan offers numerous new assistance systems, including intelligent drive systems.

In terms of driving performance, the bulky luxury car is at the top of its class as well. Powered by the familiar 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12, the reborn Maybach reaches 530 horsepower.

Vietnam sends over 10 orders for Mercedes-Maybach S600 that costs nearly $500,000:

Mercedes-Benz’s effort to win back fame with its all-new Maybach S600 could pay off, at least in Vietnam, where it has received more than ten orders for the revived super-sedan.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is considered the rebirth of the German automaker’s luxury super-sedan series, with only 50 limited editions to be manufactured in 2015, according to Mercedes-Benz Vietnam.

A Mercedes-Maybach S600 has arrived in the Southeast Asian country to be displayed as part of a debut ceremony to be hosted globally early next month.

Vietnamese buyers have placed more than ten orders for the sedan at a whopping VND9.6 billion (US$451,850) each, with all taxes included, according to Mercedes-Benz Vietnam.

The highest price a Mercedes sedan fetches in the EU is only $166,700, according to Bloomberg.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is a member of the S-Class family, which Mercedes sees as “the highest-quality vehicle in the world.”

The sedan is described as “a new level of hand-crafted refinement, personalization and prestige,” the Stuttgart-based automaker said on its website.

Mercedes is hoping its all-new Maybach will be a tough competitor to British luxury carmakers Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

The ultra-luxury Mercedes car brand is owned by German multinational automotive corporation Daimler AG.

In November 2011, Daimler said that Maybach would cease to be a brand by 2013 and manufactured the last Maybach vehicle in December 2012. This was due to poor sales, with only 3,000 cars sold since the brand's revival in 2002.

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach marquee as Mercedes-Maybach, an ultra luxury edition of the much celebrated Mercedes-Benz S-Class, according to Bloomberg.

The new Maybach is hoped to win wealthy consumers in Asia from Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Vietnam is considered one of the strongest developing markets in Asia by Mercedes-Benz, according to Nikkei Asia Reviews.

In the first six months of last year, more than 1,100 Mercedes cars were sold in Vietnam, the most impressive sale since it entered the country in 2006.

In October of last year alone, Mercedes sales in Vietnam topped a record 200 units, according to Nikkei Asia Reviews.

The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is eight inches (20.32cm) longer than the standard S-Class, providing generous legroom for rear passengers, according to Mercedes.

The sedan will offer seven unique design interior packages to choose from, with its unparalleled comfort and sophistication highlighted by hand-stitched Nappa leather throughout the interior – including the headliner, pillars and entire seats – with optional seat buttons, pillows and pillow stitching on the dashboard.

“In addition to a palette of 14 standard Manufaktur exterior paints developed using a special process, the Maybach S600 will feature eight additional exclusive paint colors,” Mercedes says of the broad spectrum of personalization options on its flagship sedan.

Vietnam's GDP per capita reached $1,911 in 2013, according to the World Bank.

Not sure about the $166,000 for the most expensive Mercedes sedan in the EU, as they are clearly comparing the price with the Vietnamese price including taxes.

Yes. And the summer vacations were cancelled probably to keep up with present demand and quality requirements. :)

I wouldn't want one of those cars, built by employees who are probably pissed at having summer holidays cancelled.

Sales in Hong Kong has been good. The only official announcement is that the sales figures is definitely in the hundreds.
