Here you can actually see the back wheel covers.

I think they wanted to go full throttle on the environment to make a shock, estalish their green image. So F700 Diesotto.

So a big panel of Bluetec, Hybrids and Diesotto, and nothing else. Only gree (or blue...).

The Concepts will be for Tokyo I think, hope to see there the Vision GLK. Now that they officially are a green carmaker.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

call me crazy but i like the details of the design , i dont think its ugly !!!

If you are crazy for that then me too :D

Some details are very interesting, the overall design, well, I'm warming to it. I quite like it, for most angles, and it looks good on those real-life high-res pics.

Curious to see the new Mercs, after having seen that and the new S, CL and C...

Oh dear oh dear oh dear -- there is nothing about this ridiculous design that is characteristic of a true Mercedes-Benz -- where's the dignity?, the refinement?

There are some interesting aspects to this design ....but ultimately this is an exercise in showy styling only -- there is very little evidence of any real purpose to its form -- once again, Mercedes has thrown out all the things which made Mercedes design so important under Bruno Sacco in favour of superficial ostentatiousness -- there is nothing particularly new or original about it -- it looks like a Maybach on crack to me.

Its only redeeming feature is the interior design, although it needs much work, it is still an improvement over the Maybach's.

^^ I realize that, but all those concepts do point to different styling themes which have run through Mercedes' vehicles from the mid 1990s until today.

I know this is just a concept, so it is just a "feeling" of where Mercedes is going in terms of aesthetics.

I've been eagerly awaiting your response rob :-)

The only 'F' that has had much baring on MB's overall design language is the F200. The rest have lent small styling details at best.

The point of the F700 is obviously to be as in your face as possible. It's apparently inspired by a DOLPHIN after all. :t-rot: Nowhere have Mercedes stated this is the future of their design, though some of the nicer details will make their way into the model range.

Just look at the new CL and C. Both are very restrained and dignified. The AMG treatment is absolutely necessary if you want the car to be as 'bling' as some of their German counterparts.

Re: Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes to unveil F700 luxury sedan

I saw this concept a while ago. It looks outstanding from the front, but gets a little odd after that. Of course I not going to question Mercedes-Benz on this because it's a concept. The grill and Headlights would be nice on a future Benz "sedan". I really don't want to see Benz do anything "weird" like the X6 Bmw (in the rear). Thats a little too country for me.

Hello Mohammed, it is nice to talk with you again. :)
I can see a lot of the current Mercedes styling elements in this concept.

I love concept vehicles, but I don't see much here that is really very original or new.

The thing about this concept which is most significant is it must suggest Daimler has more or less given up on Maybach .....otherwise this long-wheel-base concept would surely have been designated a Maybach I would have thought. :t-hands:

.....It has even taken the small triangular window from the Maybach 62.

Somebody should put a warning on this thread. :D

I like some things, like the greenhouse ending, very slick, the grill, very imposing.

I think this is a clear statement about MB moving upwards on the "price chain". The rear interior section is very Maybach.

PS. Whats wrong with making good looking concepts??? :t-crazy2:

Yep Rob, agree with you for Maybach... The Ocean Drive, then this long wheel-base ultra luxurious concept...

Did you know that Maybach has presented some things at the IAA? Nobody speaked of that... They presented the Benz' Alubeam paint as option, and a new treatment of the leather to make black leather as black, deep and shiny as the Piano-lack...

I think however that MB gave up Maybach...

Whatever they do it won't do any good to MM... Drastic changes are needed, in all areas... Except the engines of course...

:t-cheers:

Wow, didn't know this. Alubeam paint and special leather? There is no better time to buy one of these because I bet you can get a huge deal on even a customer ordered one. I'd get a 57S with some really unique options/colors/leathers.

Mercedes F700 - preview of the 2012 S-Class

At the Frankfurt Auto Show, Mercedes unveiled the F700, a dramatically styled concept, that previews a series of high-end features the company plans to incorporate into future production models. The F700 previews the large luxury sedan previews the next-generation S-class due in 2012.

Mercedes describes the F700 as a “futuristic interpretation of the classic sedan” and predicts much of the technology it previews will begin appearing on production models within the next decade as emissions regulations become tougher and buyer expectations grow with advances in fields such as consumer electronics.
While officials are quick to downplay the relevance of the new four-door’s styling, Mercedes sources suggest that various themes explored within its body are likely to be developed further before being committed to production. These include a bold front-end treatment that could preface the look of its future lineup, as well as individual elements such as prominent wheel arches and flowing C-pillars.
The F 700 is the world’s first car that can anticipatively recognize the condition of the road and level out the uneven spots with its active PRE-SCAN suspension, further improving suspension comfort substantially. The forward-pointing DIESOTTO drive system introduced in the F 700, a four-cylinder with a displacement of only 1.8 liters, combines the strong points of the low-emission gasoline engine with the consumption benefits of the diesel drive. Its CO2 emissions of a mere 127 grams per kilometer correspond to consumption of only 5.3 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers (44.3 mpg), extremely low for a vehicle of this class.
This is made possible by a forward-looking drive concept, the heart of which is the “DIESOTTO” technology – an advancement of the internal combustion engine thought up by Mercedes-Benz. With its novel controlled auto ignition (CAI), direct fuel injection and turbocharging, it combines the high power of the spark-ignition engine with the exemplary torque and great fuel economy of a diesel. The drive system in the F 700, as four-cylinder featuring two-stage charging, attains the performance level of a current S-Class car with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 gasoline engine or the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.
