Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
Here is a small consolation prize for the Mercedes fanboys, considering they sold 370k fewer units than BMW. Mercedes saw a 10% drop in sales compared to 2024. Their Head of Design was fired, and surely the shareholders aren't saying, 'Everything is great, we're selling more luxury vehicles,' right? The debates here are comical because the Mercedes board of directors and shareholders already acknowledge that the company is failing.
I always thought this was a forum for car enthusiasts, not cool mommy investors. Looking at sales figures is always interesting and all, but it doesn't tell you anything about the quality of the car. I don't care how many 5-series BMW can sell on the market compared to E-class. 5 is a shit show for me from start to finish. And I don't care if the S-class is still a king of sales in it's class. For me it's the worst S in decades in terms of quality. At the moment there is not a single German manufacturer that does not produce crap. The big three are in deep crisis.

The S-Class sells twice as much as the 7 Series. Mercedes is the undisputed leader in the upper segment. There's no room for debate.

So if Mercedes sells so many luxury cars, why has its profitability plummeted? Despite luxury vehicles having a much higher profit margin, Mercedes has been making significantly less profit than BMW for the past few years. And if BMW sells fewer luxury cars, why is it making more profit? Isn't there something strange about this?
They’re currently heavily investing in a new generation of ICE , after abandoning it almost completely in favor of their EV plans.

I know that they’re currently very often asking their top clients what they want. They want the dialogue with the G,S Maybach customers because they saw how the GLS Maybach failed.

Let’s not lie nobody has seen more XB7s & XMs than GLS600s worldwide. Mercedes just simply sells more in that type of financial bracket

You can’t compare them with the GLS600, they’re 1/3 less expensive than the GLS.

In Switzerland the XM is almost half price of the GLS because of the discounts.

Milking the G-Wagon up to the last drop might be the end of the hype it’s getting in the last years.

The G-Class mean exclusivity and stands nearly for a standalone brand, as it looks anything like the bland lineup.

This should never be greenlighted IMO.

The G-Class it’s the best opportunity for Mercedes to go upmarket without making tacky Maybach crap rebadges, so what they do it’s the complete opposite.

This is exactly what I said.

A baby G will kill the big G.

Rich people buy it for the exclusivity, not because its a good offroader or because it drives well on the road.

Well none of those models are sold in Turkiye so I don’t see any of them, lol. Unless you have the official figures it’s basically a nonsense.

Dont even need official figures.

Anyone who has been to the UK, germany, and the US can confirm this.

Mercedes rules supreme in the luxury germn vehicle market.

The audi a8 is completely dead now, it gained market share at one point but the last few generations lost momentum and bmw is in second place.

Those type of cars are never meant to be sold in large numbers. Its a money making exercise for the manufacturer, and a social contract either the buyer. Buy this car at a insane price, be assured we wont make many. Your investment will be safe, the value of the vehicle will appreciate over the decades.

The mercedes speedster wasnt a true bespoke product anyway. It was just a GT with the metal tin cut off.
C’mon ,How many people want a Sportscar without windscreen?

The McLaren Elva and Aston Martin V12 Speedster weren’t successful either.

I’d have preferred a version with a windscreen and a manual roof.

When they announced that profitability through Q3 2025 had fallen by a massive 50.3% compared to 2024, you can look it up
The two companies' revenues in the third quarter (32 billion euros) and the 9 months (99 billion euros) are almost identical. There are differences in profitability. This difference is natural, as Mercedes increased its new product investments this year. They have developed three independent electric vehicle platforms and models in which they will be used. BMW has not made significant investments outside of the Neue Klasse.

That's what I'm trying to say. Mercedes earns the same amount of money even though they sell far fewer units.

This is so ridiculous. You act like no other brand has brought out a smaller, more attainable version of one of their flagship products, and been successful or is this just a unique thing to Mercedes. It's nuts to think that the min the g comes out the G is just going to stop selling. The market can't get enough of off roaders and if Mercedes didn't capitalize on the G the peanut gallery would be saying how they missed an opportunity.

Not a fan of the AMG Mythos PureSpeed. Far too much tacked-on b.s. However...

...I do like that front end. And somewhat toned down, it would be a most fitting "signature element" for all future AMG vehicles. FAR better than the weird GT XX "Sharkmouth".

I think BMW is in a much better position today to do crazy things, as the Skytop / Speedtop demonstrated.
Crazy things? If you were able to approach the topic from a much less biased position, you would consider BMW needs to sell these cars on limited numbers cause demand is simply not there, as the recent 8er demonstrates.

Rich people do not spend Bentley/Lambo money on lesser brands like BMW or MB. This seems obvious for everyone besides the internet brand warriors.

Agree. Had the Boxster/ Cayman killed the 911 ? No.
Had the Macan killed sales of Cayenne? No.

The car could have been so much more. Sigh.. Just like the SL680. Mercedes really doesn't know itself anymore when it comes to these type of vehicles.

The best one is Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and even the runt Range Rover Evoque didn't kill the big Range Rover and the Evoque is nothing by comparison. I really don't think you can go wrong with a new off roader at the moment. If a brand has trouble selling SUVs they're doing something wrong.
