Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
Checked today. A friend with GLC. Yes , it's cardboard.

Sorry I did not take a photo , but I had my phone on charging. But will make a photo next time I will see him.

And he even has the panoramic roof ( I initially was thinking that this was only on the normal roof )

It's not on the liner ! It's between the liner and the metal . More exactly , glued to the metal sheet

Will come back with proof (picture) . Sorry , I did not have my phone with me

Ok, and tell us what the compromise is if this is true? And if others do this, are they as deficient as Mercedes?

Wow, really?
I will post the picture.

I don't understand why is that so hard to believe....Not like I am new to this forum

I can only think about one thing : Moist absorption over time. Especially in humid environments ( UK for example )

It cardboard,man....It's the most stupid cost cutting MB can do.

Again , we are talking about a LUXURY car manufacturer.

And this luxury high-priced car manufacturer does cost cutting everywhere , while boosting the prices to the moon.

GLC has a starting price of over 60.000euros !

If you think it's fine , it's your opinion .

Kindly reminder , that I had MBs for over 10 years. I used to be a fan of the brand . But when things turn sideways , I am objective and I will point that out.

No hate...

So in others words you've got nothing to truly speak of. It is my opinion that you're just thirsty to find something negative about Mercedes. It's cardboard in a place that no one will ever see and newsflash, all car companies cut costs in areas where you won't see. You can't grasp this because of your ridiculous ongoing campaign to latch onto to or repeat anything negative about Mercedes. Yeah it seems cheap, but again do you know if any other (more robust) material is required? It in a headliner, not being used for sound deadening like I originally asked. If moisture is a problem, has the GLC been plagued with issues concerning it's roof and moisture? You can't even come up with that the deficiency is, but you're quick to point out that it's a problem. Cost cutting is the car business. It's done where you can see it, where you can't see it and everywhere in between. Mercedes is no different. Kindly remember I've had 2 Mercedes also and I still have a W140 S500 so you aren't telling me anything there either. You aren't being objective you're just posting bullshit for the most part and I'm far from a love everything about Mercedes fanatic. I have dragged them for every mistake, ugly car and poor decision they've made so you can't go there either.

I mean, open pore wood is highly susceptible moisture-related warping and damage, but its still in cars. The use of these types of materials might also be part of a legislative push for more sustainable material usage in cars, instead of synthetic plastics.
If the "cardboard" (do we even know its cardboard, or not something that looks similar), does the job in terms of sound deadening/dampening and is appropriately sealed from possible atmospheric damage, does it matter?

Is the usage of steel in the subframe carriers bad, because it could rust? Even though you can examine any modern German car which uses steel, and see that they're completely covered in a coating/sealant to prevent any moisture penetrating.

This is the whole point of engineering no? To optimise.

I'm not saying the complaints aren't really warranted, but has this been provably a problem in modern Mercedes products? Has there been water ingress causing problems in the headliner or wheelarches or wherever?

I guess the ride is terrible, are they 24“?

My non lowered G with 22“ is already more than stiff enough.

For me personally this car is OTT.

But it shows that people are prepared to spend big money on G’s, therefore Mercedes Benz should put the V12 in this thing.
Yeah they should do both W465 G65 AMG & W465 G65 AMG 4x4 squared in limited numbers , they might sell who knows🫣.

The Mini G-Class isn't based on a specific architecture. It boasts a unique chassis structure for excellent off-road performance. However, Mercedes also uses many familiar technical components from the MMA/MB.EA-M family, as well as the MB.OS operating system.

Initially fully electric, the G-Class will now also be offered with hybrid high-tech internal combustion engines. Which ones will be available is not yet known, but longitudinally mounted engines are not out of the question.

I might try a non 4x4 squared 65 If they build it.

The garages of out Shopping centers have a ceiling height of 2m or 80 inches, this and the missing power operated step are the reasons I went for a normal 63.

I wonder why the 4X4x2 hasn't been facelifted. It was an instant sell out in every market from what I can see. The dealers here were getting 380K for them after absolutely insane markups called "market adjustments".

"Mini" G-Class ?

Appears to me to be a recipe that could be very successful for M-B. Provided that it's footprint is compact and "urban compatible". It could appeal to a broad audience.

In Switzerland it’s the only G with high discounts( together with the G580EQ) it didn’t sell at all.

Because it’s too high.

I see them here in Texas pretty regularly now. MBUSA has completely retreated from giving out specific sales numbers so we will never know how many G's were sold or how many of them were 580s.

Yes I agree, but they gotta get it right. I hope it doesn't have a parts bin interior and just 4-cylinder engines. That will limit its appeal, if not fully kill it.

I saw 2 in 2025. One on German plates (black) and one lokal (grey).

But G‘s are everywhere however usually non AMGs.

As I said the 4 banger wouldn’t be strong enough. It’d barely move this thing, especially the Chinese one with 220 lb-ft.
The M256 is the right engine, I’d detune it for the lower versions 300hp-450hp in the 53 AMG.

In Europe a Diesel is still essential for this car.

I guess what we want and what Mercedes needs is a fully unique product like the current G is, just condensed.
