Mercedes-Benz to introduce entry-level SL280

Nah don't like this. SL should remain with the biggest engines. The SL350 is enough. There is no 6-cylinder CL so a SL350 is cutting is close enough, though now with 315hp it isn't nearly as bad it sounds on paper. More hp then the previous SL500 (306hp).

What do you say, Chris? ;)

Touchy subject. Audi seems to have taken a risk with their V12 TDI R8, but I'm not so sure if a diesel SL is the right car at this time. :eusa_thin

I don't really have too much to say about this. It's too touchy at the moment. :t-cheers:

OK, I might be the only one who loved the Vision SL 400 CDI. :usa7uh:

The Vision SL400 CDI actually didn't really get the positive acceptance MB had hoped for. I remember reading a story in AMS about how many people had written them explaining how they thought a diesel SL was simply outrageous no matter how fast, efficient or refined the diesel engine was.

Things have changed since that. Now diesel is much more attractive choice. For example BMW UK is expecting the 635d to account for nearly 75 %(!!!) of the 6-series sales. The SL is in a bit higher category but I still think there would be enough demand for a diesel SL.
