There were massive discounts in the USA towards the end of the run.

Yes - some $510k fully-specced 62s' were selling for $400k or less with discounts. Granted there was a recession - some Maybachs sat for up to year waiting to be sold.

Not in Europe.
In Europe it was a flop. I thought it was only popular with Jay Z. Interesting this is being mentioned. Just 3 weeks ago someone messaged me to say there are several of the old Maybach sat unpainted and outside at Stuttgart factory... Odd or what?

Edit, just checked, in the Uk, 23 62 sold and 16 of the 57 sold... Unreal. Didn't know so rare!

$100,000 rebate in the US to shift dealer stock of 62's in 2012, if they were moving on their own, there wouldn't have been a $100,000 rebate. Did European dealers sit on stock?

It wasnt a flop, because the car was not good.
Actually it was and still is superb - otherwise it wont still cost at least 100k € 18 years old.

The problem was the price & the fact, that EU doesnt have so much rich people as the Saudis, USA etc.

Anyone know when the S63 press drives are?

It was a flop, period.

What does that have to do with my initial post where i was saying that i like the car very much and thinking to get me one instead of an 223, which is absolutely worse build?

If a car didn sell well, that doesnt mean, it isnt a superb car.

It definitely needs the true grill and a star on the hood. Thats what makes a Merc a true Merc, watchin that star through the windshield, when driving.
I do like the all body colored air intakes on the new one. It looks very much more classy, then the all black one at the 222, where it looks like the new 7er with M-package: like the car left the car tinker, where the tinker forgot to put back all parts (grill and part of the bumper).
I think that BRABUS nailed it much much better, when they kept the classic grill. I would add only the star and the car would be top.

When the big star is in the center of the grill, it does not have the one of the ornament on the hood for redundancy, (and his must be the truest Mercedes that exists).
Since the modern version of the Panamericana appeared, I miss this other one, horizontal rather than vertical...it's time for it to reappear

No Phantom came even close to this.
Not. Even. Close.

It was the best vehicle on the road in that time. There is no doubt.

The Phantom was a Range Rover sedan compared to this masterpiece, Bentley was also crawling miles behind it.

Maybach’s issue was its comeback itself and its exterior styling. A W140 conversion to a blown W220.
I remember when I saw it for the first time I even thought it’s an opulent Asian take on ultra luxury segment using Mercedes styling. I had no clue about the Maybach name nor its history.

Rolls Royce buyer’s are those who buy Rolex watches, they usually have no Idea about cars nor watches, but they know the few brand names. And for Maybach, just one Jay-Z won’t change it in their minds.

What did I wrong in my life? I own a Rolex but not a Rolls Royce…
