S-Class (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift

Added to Calendar: 01-29-26

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan. Body Styles: W223 (standard), V223 (long), Z223 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach). Predecessor: S‑Class (W222). Successor: S-Class (W224) [expected]. Production: 2020- Model years: 2021-
What’s questionable about the next S?

Sales: The rest of the segment aside from the 7er is largely dead due to shifting demand towards large luxo-SUVs, that bypass the model dedicated R&D and refinement of the S-Class, and thus rake in higher margins for other manufacturers. The S-Class will remain as it’s one of the most legendary lineages in the industry, but there no denying annual volumes are trending downwards.

MB design language (most recent releases look terrible) - if the ICE/BEV share the same architecture; the W224 may go the way of the blocky 7er, which is far from pretty for powertrain packaging reasons.

Other concerns include, staying true to repeat customer’s preferences rather than trend chasing (we see that now passenger screen agenda), webcams, stars all over the place and illuminated, and more cost-cutting in terms of build quality via screens like we seen in recents MBs.

I’m sure there will be a realignment strategy for the w224, but most of the recent MB releases indicate the brand is now geared towards trendy vs traditional, well-engineered MB.

I get that but I don’t really see where the engineering has been compromised or had it? I thought the car itself was solid?

I’m taking the same route also - to hold me over till then I’m trading in my 2023 and taking delivery of one of the last pre-FL W223’s this weekend with just every option (~$40k roughly), except 4 place executive rear seats and Manufaktur special leather. It has e-ABC, which less than 5% of W223’s in the US have, so it will be very interesting to see how it’ll improve upon Airmatic experience.

Other clients seem to be holding till the FL comes out, so I was able to get a decent incentive.

The whole EQS derivative interior just doesn’t sit right with me (at the moment). The pre-Fl is not without flaws, but it has a very good balance of tech without overwhelming the driver and retains some traditional design.

It’s definitely a sign of the changing times when the outlook of the next S-Class is questionable. Let’s see if MB recovers from the other nonsense they’re pushing on us consumers recently.

Congratulations, that’s a very fine configuration.

I am looking forward to your comparison between E-ABC and Airmatic.

We already know the W224 isn't on a convergence platform. The electric model will be styled similarly but on a dedicated platform.

I love the silver exterior and cream interior, it really suits the S-class so well. After seeing this FL next to the pre FL model I gonna have to say I prefer the FL front and rear.

Wow this red car with black wheels looks fantastic. That red is so shiny like a ruby, simply stunning.
