S-Class (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift

Hopefully, "Radical Next" will be far more exciting.

BMW isn’t correcting mistakes since they were already executing their plans brilliantly.

Indeed, BMW appears to be doing just fine nowadays. And the future is looking promising as well.

It’s the turn around factor for Mercedes that has me excited and hopeful.

7) VLE - March 26
8) AMG GT EV - April/May 26

The C-class and the GT EV are cars I am most excited about. Hope both saloons will be extremely stylish and with interiors to match.

The VLE is the model they need to advance the most in my opinion. It needs to be a massive leap forward over the V-class in tech, luxury and the way it drives to battle the latest advanced people movers from Lexus and the Chinese brands.

I am curious to know if its going to be a liftback/hatch like the BMW i4 and Audi A5 with that strange rear end. If its a usual saloon boot, then for sure will be slightly disappointed as its unnecessary for them to make a slanted boot and should have made a conventional looking boot like the C-class ICE model. A liftback hatch opening will be a practical idea as they not bringing a station wagon so it can fill the gap for the T-model which is very popular in Europe.

No, the real thing is due in a few years time, the S class W224. If that one doesn’t match expectations and If they can’t finally offer decent value for money, I’m afraid I can’t be positive about Mercedes-Benz future.

We all have varying levels of enthusiasm for various products (who gets excited by a van lol), but I think we all agree whatever they do needs to be their absolute best effort.

I can’t image what the W224 looks like. Probably more than any other model, a totally new S is major event. I would love to be a car engineer, designer and yet I wouldn’t want the job in today’s car world to save my life. Imagine the things you have to come up with and anticipate and then bring it all to a showroom. Mercedes R&D has to be a sprawling colossus now. The days of just engineering the 190E, 300E, S-Class and SL must be a terribly distant memory if any of those engineers are still at the company.

A new S-class is always in my opinion one of the most exciting moments in motoring history as it's such an important car for launching new technology and raising the standard for how luxury cars drive. As enthusiasts and owners of Mercedes vehicles, we also expect a high standard that advances the cars future yet doesn't go behind on the strengths of the past. I also cant fathom what the W224 is going to look like, but I think this has to be another $1 Billion or more development car for Mercedes. They need to lift the S-class into a level that will make owners of current Rolls Royce models think twice about whether they really are driving the best luxury car money can buy.

Couldn’t agree more, MB design needs to move on. I’d like it to be the new S to be the one pushing the envelope.

The other day, a C 300d 4Matic passed me on the German Autobahn. Apparently he was in a hurry, because I was driving at a speed of little under 200 km/h. I was thinking the same, what a good looking car it is. The absence of a I6 or an AMG V8 was really a loss.

The only problem with these previews is that they probably do not show one of the key areas MB needs to improve for real this time across the entire line-up: interior quality.

I do not have high hopes for W224 as it was most likely sketched by Gordon.

Incoming design chief Bastian Baudy is a Wagener protege` and has so far spent his entire career in the M-B design department under Wagener's supervision.. Where some differences may lie are a "more vascular", "ripped" sculpturing of the sheetmetal and a more prominent presentation of a neo-retro grill/shield. But elements of the "Sensual Purity" are bound to remain. More "edgy" Sensual Purity mixed with recollection of legacy elements, I suspect.

My long distance cruiser is a V300d 4matic, it’s already my 4th Mercedes Benz Van.

That’s why. Currently it’s the only Mercedes Benz car with 2 Luxuryseats in the back ( both Maybachs have only one Luxury seat, you can’t stretch your legs behind the driver, because the wheelbase is too short).

The VLS should combine the space with softer suspension and less noise.

Is it possible to remove the black plastic on the door through Manufaktur, that’s the most important question for me.
