S-Class (W223/V223/Z223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift

Added to Calendar: 01-29-26

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan, produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2020. It replaces the W222 S‑Class which had been produced since 2013. Body Styles: W223 (standard), V223 (long), Z223 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach). Production: 2020- Model years: 2021-
I'd at least wait for the next one and see if they were able to wash away Gorden's legacy and bring it back to Sacco-ish stuff again.

The next S class is going to be a pivotal car for the brand, imho
It's got to be as right as the W222 was and the W464 is.

Yeah but the design is so badass, sleek and beautiful....
Doesn’t matter on the side of the road.

Mercedes closes big deal with LG
LG Energy Solution has prevailed against major Chinese competitors such as CATL.

Mercedes signs Mega Deal with LG Energy Solution. It consists of two components:

  • LG supplies the US plant in Tuscaloosa with 75 GWh battery cells from July 2029 to December 2037. These are probably MB.EA-L SUV vehicles that are built in the Tuscaloosa plant. This could be a GLE EQ and GLS EQ (successor of the current EQE SUV and EQS SUV.
  • For Europe, 32 GWh is planned for the period August 2028 to December 2035.

This large supply contract is the new 46 round cell (4.6 cm diameter). Currently, the prismatic cells are installed in MMA (CLA, GLA, GLB) and in the MB.EA-M (GLC EQ, C-Class EQ, E-Class EQ).

This new delivery agreement can be concluded that the 46 round cell will be used on the MB.EA-Large platform. Here, the module level is dispensed with and the round cells are combined directly with the battery housing and the body.

Thus, the currently planned start date of August 2028 for the S-Class EQ is well known.

In July 2029, vehicles in the USA (large SUVs such as GLE or GLS EQ) will be launched on this platform.

The AMG.EA platform will start in autumn 2026, also using round cells, but round cells with a thin diameter to be able to release the temperature quickly from the thin round cells to the oil bath at the extremely high charging currents of 850 KW.

The 107 GWh hours mean (estimated) around 856,000 e-vehicles for a battery of about 125 kWh. With a contract duration of around 9 years, there are around 100,000 vehicles per year that are covered with this deal.

Further batteries are covered by CATL and the European joint venture ACC and a previous 50 GWh deal with LG.

You're going to be late, but still be able to admire the design and make yourself believe you made the right choice..
Not sure you'd want to be sat at the side of the road when you've spent a fortune on the best engineering. But I suppose we're all different lol.

The main culprit behind these absurdities is the inconsistent electric vehicle strategies. After the W223, Mercedes considered making the S-Class purely electric. I'm sure they planned a simple facelift in 2024 and a new W224 in 2027. However, the EQS's lack of expected interest and the overall stagnation in the bev market changed their plans. Building a completely new model from scratch would take a long time, so they opted for a comprehensive update to the existing model to extend its lifespan. They had to use the materials they already had for this update. This forced change ruined the S-Class's identity.
That's probably a pretty reasonable explanation. But I think saying they've "killed" the S class with this update is a bit hyperbolic.

That's probably a pretty reasonable explanation.

It's the worst management to have even come out of Stuttgart if that story is true.
Worst in shared position with Porsche. Forgetting to update their main cash cow might be a tad worse even, because the S class is sort of niche. Coincidentally both are from Stuttgart.

Must be the tab water.
Hope they fixed it.

The non-AMG line looks better lmao

The proportions have been disrupted. The elegant look before the facelift has given way to clunkyness. There's no point in making the grille bigger. We were waiting for the new iconic grille, but it didn't happen. It seems this car has become a victim of Mercedes' past decisions.
