S-Class (W223) Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) Facelift

Added to Calendar: 01-29-26

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan. Body Styles: W223 (standard), V223 (long), Z223 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach). Predecessor: S‑Class (W222). Successor: S-Class (W224) [expected]. Production: 2020- Model years: 2021-
After seeing quite a number of S-class videos with different colours and trim, my overall impression of the FL S-class is it seems to be a jack of all trades. The exterior looks fantastic in mostly all the colours shown, whether its a red AMG car with night package or a grey avangarde with chrome intakes on the bumpers or even this black with chrome and smaller 18 or 19inch wheels.
That "sport" version with the all-black grille, devoid of shine or chrome, is not worthy of the S-Class. A large mass of matte black plastic makes the front look incredibly cheap..
The interior upholstered in that "manufaktur" green looks very good

I guess some chaps from MB AU moved to the UK otherwise they’d offer the S580 in UK.
90% of S classes I've seen in the UK have been 350d. The other remaining ones being AMGs. I don't think I've seen a single S500 or 600 in person. Just less than a handful on auto trader.

Lack of demand is probably why they don't sell the new 580 here, disappointing as it is.

Remove that ugly black surround and tweak the headlights a little, then it’s great. My initial thoughts have definitely changed. It still has flaws but I expect the next generation to fix those.

Would be great to see a mock up from you. Unless you've already made one and I just forgot

What exactly is wrong with it?

Screens built into the console instead of on top of the console is so.....2008
To me it looks like they modernized a design theme that literally started in the late '90s, and is a step back from what they did in the W222

They have finally upped their game in customization. Those interior and exterior options are bewildering. The SL needs this level of customization after the facelift. The C, E, and CLE should get a lighter version of this expanded Manufaktur or they should just offer it all.........for a price of course.

I agree the C,E & CLE deserve more MANUFAKTUR options, Especially exterior colours.

Even this interior would do in FL C-class/CLE

Wow I absolutely love this bright blue interior it really looks so next level and upper class bespoke. If it wasnt for the shiny screen, piano black on the door trim and center console it would be close to Bentley level of luxury.

I am warming up to the FL S-class. The exterior styling looks the part, its still a very elegant and grand looking saloon, much better looking than the 7-series in my opinion.

Its only the interior which lets it down slightly. It looks fantastic with some of the Manufaktur options but the small details could be better and i think Mercedes needs to go all out with the W224 interior. They need to bring out a passenger front seat that folds completely flat and can slide forward under the dash to make an exceptionally comfortable experience for the 6ft 6inch back passenger who wants to fully extend his legs out and have a zero gravity reclining function like many chinese saloons and SUVs have.

The interior is a mixed bag. It has some items that look brilliant, like I love the stitched leather on the doors, the center console wood trim and the seats with the diamond quilting as well as the Burmeister speaker covers. The interior colour with cream or white with a similar coloured leather wheel looks extremely smart and luxurious and the Manufaktur colours to me is a must as it makes the interior look much more expensive.

Its the small details that let it down. The black piano black trim on the doors sticks out on the door like a sore thumb, the superscreen design with ultra thick bezels will date very quickly and the black piano plastic used for the venter surrounds front and back looks cheap. The steering wheel design also is looking dated, I dont like those capacitive buttons and the regular wheel looks cheap with the piano black plastic spokes.

I guess we all hope and pray the W224 S-class will be something special and lift Mercedes up to be a great luxury car brand again and give its rivals in Germany and China a serious beating.

With all it’s interior flaws, it still drives like an S class. That alone is a reason to buy it. For long distance drivers the S, as a package, is the best, there’s not really an alternative.

Good thing that this time around the back of the front seats is in interior colour, not in black. Now the steering wheel in colour and we’re there.
