I was messing around with the configurator and realized how similar, if not the same, these 2 look.
Lower bumper intakes are pretty much identical, and same can be said for the line flow as well.

And if you add a grille to the EQS SUV… You end up with the new S-Class!

So the new S is just an EQ series parts bin?🤔

So i

They were clearly running out of ideas, so didn't even bother to design something completely new for the S-Class. Just bunch of old stuff, both exterior and interior-wise.
All those aside, I'm definitely warming up to the non-AMG model's front design. And that's pretty much the only thing I like about the facelift, sigh.

Well it's more that this extensive facelift was a last minute pivot following lower than expected EV demand.

i’m just glad they didn’t make an S-class Coupé for this gen, would’ve got ruined .

It would’ve had a B-pillar(it shouldn’t) & No V12 models. These stood out alot for the CL & the S-coupe, that’s why Merc was so on top like that back in the day.
It could be based on the Maybach with a V12 and without B-Pillar.

Currently the biggest problem of Mercedes Benz is the interior quality ( except G)

P.S.
As a CL140 owner I agree with you.

No, not true at all. The only thing that was “last minute” was the tech upgrades. Everything else was planned long ago, including the styling.

Running out of ideas is a stretch. They were always going to bring EQ styling elements to ICE cars. It was talked about on this forum years ago.

With their current decision making? i doubt they’d do that. They don’t care about making a car special anymore.

Nothing on the streets look like the CL & S-coupe. Not to mention how stunning they look with chrome rims, goddamn !👌

The G convertible will be special, that’s for sure.

I agree the S Coupe is really special and good looking.

I don’t see any new ideas there at all. They could’ve done something new and fresh while still maintaining the EQ look on the regular models, but instead they just copy pasted the whole front end. That’s very lazy to me.
