I just got a sinking feeling that the C-Class will be a media preview only and that it won't be there for the public to see. They've done this before and then Geneva ended up being the public viewing. I hope that isn't the case.

2015 Mercedes-Benz S600 Heading to Detroit

It has just been confirmed that the long-awaited 2014 Mercedes-Benz S600 will debut at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show 2014.

The standard Mercedes-Benz S600 has been spied testing on various occasions throughout the past few months. However, we thought a debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 in early March was most likely but obviously not. Either way, the Mercedes-Benz S600 is set to act as the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz except for the Pullman and mysterious extra long-wheelbase S-Class which has been spied testing at the Nurburgring.

As for the eventual S600 Pullman, it will measure around 6 to 12 inches longer than the standard 2014 S-Class and will be built as a direct rival to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Under the hood, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman is expected to be powered by a massive twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine delivering around 600 hp. That is just 30 hp down from the incredible S65 AMG released late last year. In terms of the standard S600 coming to Detroit, it will feature a little bit less power and torque.

As you would imagine, the most luxurious and high-end S-Class will include all the incredible features of the latest S-Class. Some of these will include Magic Body Control as standard with Road Surface Scan, the world’s first suspension with eyes. We have experienced this before on both the S 500 and S 63 AMG models. The Road Surface Scan uses radar to scan the road surface, detecting bumps, potholes, surface changes and general road surface imperfections. This information is fed back to the Magic Body Control unit which then adapts the suspension to smooth and optimise the ride. For the S 65 AMG, this is further refined to provide the best blend of comfort and dynamics.

I understand your disappointment, but is there a need for a brand new V12? It can still produce the numbers, and there hasn't been much complain about the refinement of the engine.

530 hp is around 100 hp less compared to the Ghost V spec/Wraight.

Sounds underpowered to me. The BMW G11 V12 will have around 600 hp too, given the state of tune in the RR versions of the V12 (570 hp, 600 hp and 630 hp)

MP Passion claims the new S 600 will have 544 hp (400 kW)? :)

Mercedes-Benz S 600 comes with the M277 engine

Mercedes-Benz introduces the S 600 in the long wheel base version V222 at the NAIAS 2014 in Detroit, with 544 hp from its 12-cylinder engine of the series M277.

The engine in the new S 600 produces 544 hp (400kW, 6 liter BiTurbo), and complies with the Euro VI emission standard, which is mandatory from September 2015 for new cars, and will be installed in the new flagship of Mercedes-Benz exclusively in the long wheelbase version (V222) - the type 222.176. The engine type is the M277, and the engine the 277.980 which comes with an enhanced 7G-TRONIC PLUS (722.932). The engine is produced at Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, where already the motor for the S65 AMG, which celebrated its debut at the LA Auto Show, is hand crafted using the "one man, one engine" principle.

S 600 Maybach - X222 - probably debuts towards the end of 2014

The "S 600 Maybach" with 5.6 meters length of the series X222 will probably be presented towards the end of 2014 and delivered starting about May 2015. A new Pullman (VV222) is probably currently being considered at the earliest for the facelift of the S-Class. Our colleagues from fuenfkommasechs.de recently published more details.

It is actually ballsy of MB to present an S 600 that is down on power and torque from the 8-cylinder S 63 and likely more expensive. They may have something up the sleeve with refinement and materials (although what we have already seen on the latter from the S 65 kind of puts a cap on what we can expect).

Some old pics of S600 spotted in China. The grille seems to be from standard variants, but the wheels are unique. From W220 onwards S600 used to have a special wheel for it, so will this be the S600 special wheel?

There is no L ever put on U.S. cars since all we get is the L version.

Wish it was shown with its own set of special wheels and touch-pad interface.

Yeah that is really odd. I guess they don't want to show too much to keep the 2014 models moving? I know I wouldn't buy a 2014 S550 now with the touch pad, HUD, and 9G all coming or at least rumored to be coming for the 2015 model year.

This is the interior that puts Benz on par with the Rolls and the Bentley tops-of-the-line. Truly outdoes even the more expensive S 65.

Mercedes should really be praised for offering this car with more gadgets and on par interior to the boutique brands at much less price. This is called Value for Money. I would prefer a Rolls Royce Ghost over S65 AMG but the rest of the S class line up is amazing value proposition on 4 wheels.
