An interesting looking and very stylish concept has been introduced by Mercedes one designer, David Obendorfer in memory/homage of the legendary W115 Mercedes /8 executive saloon that was introduced in 1968 as was the first Mercedes that sold 1million units.

Its based on the current W213, with the same dimensions.

Very clean like the rear and side not the front ...the interior also very nice.

Yeah...no. I do like the interior and the rear especially but that front is a no. That said, I wonder if Mercedes will ever take the chance and go retroish on new car again? Making the E standout like it did with the W210 generation, from the rest of the lineup would be a wonderful thing IMO. Hell get Sacco to design it. Bring some back of the old-school Benz design and feel but with modern touches. Something that instantly polarizes in a good way to most, and says I'm a real throwback Mercedes-Benz.

Yay: rear, sides, steering wheel.

Nay: front, rest of the interior, and where's the wood trim?

On the fence: those colored wheels.

I think Mercedes should go bold like this and go retro with the E-class, it would help to differentiate it from the other models and Gordon can bring in a new slogan Mature Solidity.

I'm confused. Is this official and if so what's the point?

Some nice details... Would be a temporary hit if only for the novelty and nostalgia of it.

I don't like the front much. The rest is nice interior lacks wood for sure.

If they went retro i would choose W123 for the E.

W126 S for sure..

The exteriors' front-end vaguely reminds me of the series I Cadillac CTS aka "Early Art & Science Theme".

Paul Bracq's w114/115 still looks a timeless design
Nice hommage Mercedes should take note

The vertical headlights era of the Mercedes (1950s and 1960s) is the most nostalgic for me as those cars were their most regal with handbuilt quality in the overall appearance. The 600 was the crown jewel of that era. But the designs were so balanced inside/outside that this retro version is no match for. The vertical headlamps here are just not right at least in the pictures. The rear is better than the actual w213. The design needs further refining especially at the front with maybe a chrome line across the bumper and the grille also needs improvement.

Not official. Obendorfer seems to do these projects of his own volition and I don't think anything has ever come of them, other than that they are fun to look at.

Not sure why Rolf says he is "Mercedes One" designer? See his original post. Didn't see that anywhere else on the web.

I guess it's a nice way to see how a modern interpretation of such haloed designs could end up. Personally I'm not a fan and enjoy the evolution that the brand has gone through even if there have been shockers along the way. But for all those MB fans who call 'bring Sacco back,' this could be what you end up with lol.
