This thread needs comparison photos between the GLC and its other competitors, the Audi Q5, the Volvo XC60, etc and a poll.

Agreed?

MY vote for the Merc. The X3 looks way more SUV-ish, but the GLC looks better IMO. And the interior, while being the same as the C-Class, looks far better than the X3 one.

Agree. But my thought behind is this:

I open a thread with comparison pics between the cars above.
Anytime there will be for sure a pic comparison between X3, GLC and Q3. So another comparison pic thread will be open.
Then there is maybe another comparison between the cars sbove and add the Volvo. This would be the third thread with comparison pics.
Therefore I thought it would be senseful to collect all pics in one thread.

The same at the pic comparison of new 7. The first thread which was created was a pic comparison with the W222.
Then I have found a pic comparison with 7, S and A8. First I created a thread with this cars in title but changed it in "7 and competitors".

I added this following text below the comparison as suggestion:

I have given this thread an universal title because I think it could be senseful to post comparison pics in one thread instead to open a new thread for every new picture comparison.
What's your opinion, especially of your mods?
@mods: feel free to change the thread title if you say it's not senseful to have only one thread.

Poll is added.

No matter which models do we compare ... MBs are definitely more STYLISH.

It's a bit ironic BMW treat themselves as design leaders ... yet in most cases contemporary BMW vehicles do lack STYLE. Bar some exceptions.

Back in pre-Bangle era BMWs were conservative but also stylish. Today? Not at all. Yes, they look aggressive, cool, sporty, even elegant in some cases ... But stylish? Definitely not. Shame!

Regarding SAVs ... Interesting how MB is going more cross-over way, while BMW is going even more SUV way than befor. First GLA vs X1, now GLC vs X3.

Another observation: BMW & AUDI are coming up with more angular & sharper styling / design elements lately ... with more technical look ... While MB is coming up with rounder, softer elements ... with more organic look.
Interesting since BMW's "Flame Surfacing" was all about flame-like softer curves and dynamic panels etc ... And BMW replaced / tamed / combined it with more "inorganic" angular elements within their current "Precision & Poetry" design language. ... While MB did the opposite: coming from angular forms to more organic, fluid ones with their "Aqua Dynamic" design language.

So, who is going against trend here? What's in trend now? Softer & rounder forms, or sharper & more angular ones?

As much as I like the BMW X3 I prefer the styling of the new Mercedes GLC, it has smoother lines and styling features whereas the X3 has some fussy details like the front light and grill which to my eyes don't look harmonios like those of the GLC. The interior of the GLC again is much better than the X3 which looks dated in comparison and not as classy.

Although I like almost all contemporary Mercs from the outside, I can't stand how the lower window sill bends midway through the car. This can be seen most clearly on the CLA, which is one of the few Mercs I dislike exteriorwise.

As to which style appeals most to me, Bimmer of course. Perfect blend of the two IMO, where Audis look too boring and clinical, while Mercs somewhat tacky and fast agers. That said, the X3 is one of my least favourite Bimmers in the current lineup, looks-wise (after the 2GT and AT OFC).

That's one of my favorite features of Mercedes' sedans...it plays up the sensual part of the car.

It also offers slightly better visibility from the driver's seat, as was in my W212 PFL.

That's what I really like on Benzes. Looks very elegant and royal on the right cars (like the S class).

BMW should try it one day with on one of it's cars, just to try something new. It would look amazing done right on the next 6er GC, imo. Not going to happen, but it's a nice idea. It's also a great design detail for a coupe-sedan, when properly executed, like the first gen CLS.

You don't have to be overly stylish when you are a design leader, you can also have elegance instead of style.
Nothing against style, and I fully agree MBs are more stylish, but I rather don't see them overly stylish. Brands like MB and BMW shouldn't be about the latest fad, they should be about their core values in timeless elegance, BMW a bit more sporty, MB a bit more prestigious.

Like another member recently said, a Golf shouldn't look more grown up than an A class. Should really be the other way around.

I see a lot of Q5 in this design.

Could really have been the next Q5, minus the obvious differences. But the proportions and shape remind me of a slightly elongated Q5, with Audi-ish rear lights, Audi-ish greenhouse and blatantly 'Q' copied rear hatch (Audi's Q, not Bond's).

GLC is definitely a nice looking car, it's just like I've known it for years, with same front as every other Benz and C class interior.

I genuinely really like the X3 after the facelift. The rear and side profile were always on point and now the front has been addressed.

That said the GLC is just too nice not to pick! Such a well designed, thoroughly executed vehicle.

I must say, it looks good on the S-class somehow, guess it's long enough in my eyes to incorporate it and the sill kind of blends in. I do see why you like it.

I will not try that with ANY uni-body type vehicle. That's for Body-on-Frame class Trucks and SUV's i.e. LandCruiser VX200 etc. etc. only.

You will damage the "chassis" or bent a shock tower sometime during these manoeuvres in a soft roader.

Back on Topic: X3 for me, this Benz has a great cabin yet the styling polarises.

Agreed?
Yes, should add the Volvo and the Disco, Q5, and the Evoque. For my money, after having driven everything OTHER than the GLC, I'm sorry to say it, but the Evoque is clear winner in styling, comfort, ride and handling, interior finish and interior design. As this is where I'm going next, I wait with baited breath for the arrival of the GLC. I've sold my A250 so now waiting, waiting, waiting for the GLC. But it has to be step above the X3 - I was disappointed with them - and I test drove a couple of different models including the top range 30d that had M badges all over it . It went hard, but was an incredible $100,000! Second on my list after the Evoque is the Q5, then possibly the Volvo or the beemer, the the Disco.
