Media report: Daimler plans to sell up to 50,000 EQS in 2022
“This is for you, world” is the claim of the marketing campaign for the new EQS from Mercedes-Benz. That the world will receive the gift of the first fully electric luxury sedan with the star from now on with equally open arms is the firm belief and hope at the Stuttgart headquarters. As Handelsblatt claims to have learned from corporate circles, the inventor of the automobile is calculating with annual EQS sales of up to 50,000 vehicles from 2022. This is a very ambitious plan that would catapult the EQS from scratch to a bestseller level. Just for comparison: the combustion S-Class managed to sell around 60,000 units last year. This made it the best-selling luxury sedan in the world.
From Zero to Hero
Daimler boss Källenius not only spreads confidence in matters of EQS. He firmly believes in the sales success: "With the EQS we will win many new fans for the Mercedes-Benz brand," wrote the Handelsblatt. Källenius' enthusiasm for the star seems genuine and sincere: “With a range of up to 770 kilometers, the WLTP is a luxury sedan that deserves its name in this segment. We also have the spectacular Hyperscreen. In itself, this is the largest screen that we have ever installed in a Mercedes. It opens up a completely digital world for the driver or the passengers in the car. And of course what you expect from a Mercedes: Luxury meets high-tech. Every detail is perfect. This is a Mercedes through and through - and now as an electric car ",
Ola Källenius has not yet commented on the sales prices. It is assumed, however, that the EQS price list should start at around € 100,000. If this is the case, the entry-level version of the EQS would be a lot more expensive than the basic version of the Tesla Model S, which is currently available for 86,990 euros with all-wheel drive and a specified 663 km range. The Daimler boss left no doubt that the company wanted to earn money with the EQS. The return would be "reasonable", but - OK also said - the combustion S-Class would be far more profitable than its fully electric equivalent.
