E-Class W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 Test Drives


The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

I'm waiting to see the E53 Sedan.

I have driven the E53 sedan, I can say it has a touch of sporting edge and the inline 6 with the 48v hybrid assist is butter smooth. It feels smooth and fast but not shockingly fast.
 
Compared to the 43? @Monster
The engine of the 53 has a deeper note, but it still pops and crackles just as loud. I haven't driven the E 53 for long enough to give a definitive opinion but to me it feels like the E 53 has a little more "shove" at the mid range to higher rpm. I would have liked to drive both of them back to back for a comparison.
 
An update on the car I drove, I still think polar white isn't the best color on a big car like the E class.

I see a number of W213 E class models in Bahrain and Saudi and with the AMG kit the car looks elegant and sporty in equal measure and the cars styling disguises its size. On first appearance it looks not much bigger than the C-class.
 
You want to know why I don't like Autogefuehl? Because they're amateurs. As most car journalists.
It's the difference between watching a tennis racket review from someone (Autogefuehl, Motortrend (not Randy), AMuS, C&D, Doug DeMuro, etc., etc.) who read the spec sheet, watched a bit of tennis, took ten tennis lessons, and then played with it for an hour and from someone like Roger Federer who is an expert player that is getting the maximum from the tennis racket during his review (example Gebhardt - sport auto).

I find Cristian Menzel the best tester by far, including Gebhardt. He is not only an excellent race driver who knows has to extract the best from the car, but he is also a car developer, developing standard cars but also racing cars like a Porsche 911 GT3 for Manthey racing

A tad too much emphasis on how "modern" and "young" and "sporty" the W213 is..Now there is an actual "sports style" package too, in addition to the night package, avant garde, elegance and the AMG line. Interestingly enough the video said the E 450 has a "L6" engine, Perhaps it is an error or perhaps the E class range will finally switch to the "L6" engine.
