E-Class Mercedes-Benz E-Class Through The Years

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
Is there an updated version of this pic with the W212 and W213?

Please excuse my late reply, very busy lately.
Unfortunately, I could not find a photo with all the E-Class models that includes the latest version.
It would be great if Mercedes would produce a photo like this come face/lift time.

Amazing, two entirely new E class models have been launched since this thread was created! And we're halfway for the third new model.

Almost 15 years, and quite a few posters are still around.
And those 15 years is not even counting the years we were together on germancarforum.com

Really something to think about.
That must have been back in 2000-2001, coming up on twenty years now.
We should have some sort of 20-year gathering where everyone here can shake hands and test drive some new cars.

Here is a video showing the evolution of the E-class from W124 to W213.

Interior evolution from W123 to W213. For me the W210 has the worst interior of all the E-class models, its look and mostly its build and material quality were a disgrace for the Mercedes brand.

I still haven't managed to move the w211 and w213 inside the same garage yet, hopefully I will get it done by this weekend. As you can see, there are a surprising number of similarities in the design theme of both interiors.

I like the W211 interior, it has stood the test of time and still looks elegant and is very well built. The seats are very comfortable and support in the right places. I havent yet sat in the W213 to do comparisons but I am guessing it is more spacious than the W211 especially more elbow room which I would say is not plentiful in the older car.

I still love the W211, it was the best looking E since the W124. The new one is similar in it's prettiness also. The W212, well........

There are a lot of similarities between the exterior and interior design theme of the W211 and the W213, especially when they are parked side by side. You will notice the side profile is very similar, and the way the line start and finishes from the side and all the way to the back is very similar too. The W211 is still very pretty looking and the design has really stood the test of times. The build quality is rock solid too. Yes there are a few flimsy rotary nobs and buttons but the car is built to last.

The w213 feels more spacious in all dimensions, especially in terms of the leg room, and front elbow room. From my brief time sitting in the back, there are definitely more elbow room in the w213 but not as much as it seems. From the outside the W213 make the W211 looks like C class.

I cant believe the W211 E-class was launched 18 years ago, its design has hardly aged at all. It still is a very attractive car and is timeless. The W210 is now 25 years old and is looking like shit now in comparison.

In my opinion the W210 is the least attractive E-class ever, it was a disgrace for Mercedes with its brittle plastics and build and reliability problems. I still love the W124, it is one of the best Mercedes models ever made, really a brilliant car for its period.

I disagree. My dad had a lovely blue black 1996 E320 W210 with the 162kW straight 6. It was really fast for its day and actually was nice looking. It gets a bad rap and I don't really think it is justified. That engine came on cam at about 4000 rpm and it took off. The build was pretty decent.

Agreed though that the W211 was a huge improvement on the W210, and does look decent even today. For me, the W212 is the disappointing series. The W213 is like its cool grandchild in comparison.

Remember when the W210 came out, it had quite a cool factor due to the two/four round lights. Georg Kacher at the time commented that it looked like you were driving a 911 from the driver's seat, as the two round edges of the bonnet resembled it. And of course on the then new CLK, the round lights were really nice and sporty. That first CLK was nicer than the second generation. For me, the facelift W210 somewhat was poor.

My take (nowadays):

The W210 was indeed quite dreadful in far too many aspects. The W124 was at its' best in MOPF 1 form (presented for the 1988 model year) and a genuinely excellent automobile in that particular iteration-but is otherwise overrated. The W211 was (and remains) a visually compelling car-and a very good one at that (as long as its' a MOPF MY 2006 specimen-otherwise not so good at all). The aesthetically polarizing W212, in the sum of its' attributes, is one of the best E-Class series cars. The W123 and W114/115 "Strich Achter" are exemplary in their mechanical robustness and assembly quality. Were it not for rust, few other automobiles would fit the bill of indestructibility more suitably. The current W213 appears to be a very good car.

This car is without a doubt ONE of my favorite E-class models of all time, a legend in fact.

300CE 6.0: Hammer

Imagine been in 1988 and hearing about a mid size Mercedes that has the same power of 385PS and top speed of a Ferrari Testarossa at 289km/h, unreal.

It is incredible to think that it has already been 10 years since the launch of the production ready LED headlights on the CLS.

Nice to see an old gal like this 1973 W114 280E still gracefully and quietly achieve an impressive 220km/h indicated speed on the autobahn. Its even quicker than a number of newer model cars but must have used a ton of fuel traveling this speed for a long time.
