Mercedes-Benz E-Class Owners Photo Gallery Thread

Decided to upgrade to the facelift model.. So here's the replacement.
Black E 200 CDI, 2008 mod. Engine is slow, but I tuned it a bit so it's better now. The red car is my friends', we often wash our cars together, inside out.
That is awesome, congrats on your new ride ! How does it compare to the pre facelift one?

Thanks, Monster. The biggest difference is how light the steering is.. I LOVE the new steering feel. And the throttle response is very different (faster response) with less engine noise. The pre facelift was an Avantgarde while this one is a Classic (Not sure the names are similar all over the world?) so there's that..

Other than that they pretty much feel the same to me actually. Both cars feel rock solid when driving them. And I love every minute!

Didn't the SBC brakes get dumped with the facelift as well?
Yes as per Wikipedia these are the details of the FL including the dumping of sensotronic SBC:

"The W211 was updated in 2006 for the 2007 model year, to address quality and technical issues raised by earlier models. There was new standard and optional equipment, which enabled the W211 to hold its own against its competitors. Sensotronic was dropped due to customer complaints about its software, while Pre-Safe (w/o autonomous braking) was made standard. The announced vehicle was unveiled in 2006 New York International Auto Show. In total, 29 model variants were available, with 16 Saloons and 13 Estates. New standard equipment included PRE-SAFE active protection, NECK-PRO head restraints, flashing brake lights, tyre pressure monitor. The optional Intelligent Light System included bi-xenon headlamps and 5 different lighting functions. The bodies were restyled including rear door mirror, redesigned headlamps, front spoiler, rear lights and steering wheel.

Coinciding with the minor model update, the largest factory built engine in the E-class range, the E500 (badged E550 in some countries), had its engine size increased from 5 litres to 5.5 litres in 2006. There is also an AMG model badged E63 AMG and other tuning house installations."

Yes, Rolf, I know ;)

It was meant as a question at our friend @montana since I wonder if he sensed any difference in brake feel between the pre and post-fl E-Class.

:)

Yes, you can feel the difference. Got so used to the brake feel in my old car, I actually kind of miss it. My cousin has a '03 W211 as well, and he needs to replace the pump now.. going to cost him about 1500 euro I think. So I'm glad I got rid of it! :D

Don't know why, but I want a W212 E550.

Will the W212 get the touch pad for COMAND?

Don't know why, but I want a black W211 E63 AMG.

In what way, if I may ask?

I am very curious about this!

Ask all you want, my friend :) It's kind of hard to describe it if you haven't driven a 211 yourself, but with the SBC the braking feels a little bit "harder", but at the same time it brakes very well. The brakes in the FL feels easier to push down (easier breaking in the city), but responds a bit later.

Not sure if this is due to the SBC vs non-SBC, or if it's just the condition of the brakes, but my cousin's 211 feels exactly the same way.

The SBC brakes are a bit grabby from the initial brake travel, I don't think I have ever used more than half the brake travel at all. Speaking of which, going to take it out for a drive tonight.

"Grabby" describes it perfectly, actually. Also, shouldn't you be driving the gorgeous S205 tonight instead? ;)

Thanks Montana! I thought I better take the W211 out a bit more before it goes in for service in a week. Despite its age it is still extremely smooth and refine to drive. Going to keep this car for a long time to come.

I think this was the best phase of Mercedes design in the last decade. The W211, C219 and pre-fl R230 are the best examples of this era. The reliability wasn't great, but the style was superb.

Totally agree, the styling has withstood the test of time, only the old tech head and tail lights give the age away. I think the current generation of MBs will do the same as well.
