CLK-Class (C209) Mercedes-Benz CLT/CLK Shooting Brake

The Mercedes-Benz C209 is the second generation CLK-Class, launched in 2002. The car was available in both hardtop coupé (C209) and in soft-top convertible (A209). Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class. It was succeeded by the E-Class C207. Production: 2001–2009.
Gosh!! these CLK and A5 shooting brake rumors don't want to die. I can't see any demand for a pointless coupe/touring wannabe.

That's the whole thing on this forum; if someone doesn't 'see' why a manufacturer makes a new model, the whole car instantly becomes 'pointless', 'lame', 'pointless'.
Trust me, if Mercedes will really make this car, it will not be pointless. Just like cars like X1 and F5 will not be pointless and like how the CLS is not pointless either.
An SL65 BS is a pointless car.

Completely agree with you.

The CLT and a5 Sportback are coming in full speed. Someone on some forum says they're pointless? Your opinion means nothing to Mercedes and audi.

The car Scott spotted would be the CLT concept to be displayed before the CLK coupe is launched - kinda like how audi previewed the TT coupe with the TT Sportback concept. Only Mercedes is serious about the CLT - because they have cancelled the SLT (SLK Shooting Brake). The CLT is bigger so it makes more sense - more practical.

I seen the front that was either the E-Klasse or the forthcoming CLK squared headlights very similar to that digital image, And the rear was not that different from the BMW Progressive Activity sedan in the way it slopes dramatically to be more coupe like than wagon. The plate definitely said vision but could not read the smaller text across vision from a distance.

Then we arrived with our entourage - They did not have helicopters fitted with cameras - we did, They trucked it and they left. Renault were in the vicinity as were Audi too.

Looks like Mercedes-Benz accepts that cars like this are not entirely pointless. Then again BMW have been working on a Progressive Activity Coupe aswell as the sedan. The problem with South Africa especially Cape Town is that it is becoming too crowded for manufacturers to showcase their developments that you are constantly bumping into each other.

Not only is pointless, but its ugly as hell. I like the tie in with the CLS, really brilliant on the defending of the "pointless" angle.

Carscoop is reporting that Mercedes-Benz is prepping a concept car called the CLK Shooting Brake for the Paris Auto Show. As they put it, it will be a sporty three-door model with an elongated rear-end. This will essentially be a first look at how the next-gen CLK will look like when it comes out in 2009. There is a rumor that Mercedes might actually produce a watered-down version of the shooting brake, so far, the only thing that we are sure of is that a coupe and convertable version will make it to the 2009 market. Accoring to Carscoop and its sources, we should see first official images and specs sometime next week.

Preview: Mercedes Benz Shooting Brake based on next-gen CLS

The Mercedes Benz CLS ignited the four-door coupe market when it was introduced back in 2004, and since then we’ve seen several other luxury rivals attempt to emulate the design with cars like the Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 and Aston Martin Rapide all under development. For the second-generation CLS, expected to arrive in late 2010 as a 2011 model, Mercedes is set to popularize a niche segment once again, this time reinvigorating the ‘Shooting Brake’ bodystyle.

The Shooting Brake is essentially a two-door wagon, and Mercedes designers hinted at the possibility of a modern version with the unveiling of the ConceptFASCINATION study at the Paris Motor Show. While the ConceptFASCINATION was based around the design of the new E-Class Coupe, which is expected to spawn a Shooting Brake model of its own, our inside source suggests that a new CLS version will be offered as well.

This latest computer generated rendering gives us a preview of the next-generation CLS, which was spotted testing in Germany recently as a test-mule. While the car’s mechanicals were hidden under the sheet metal of the current model, we were able to see that the next version will feature a wider track.

The new model is expected to be positioned more upmarket to bring it in line with some of its more premium rivals. This will also allow Mercedes to introduce a second four-door coupe model, rumored to be based on its next-generation small car platform.
