2008 saw the Mercedez-Benz C 63 AMG hit Australian shores and today the German company announced that it had sold over 1,000 of the highly tuned V8 sport sedans and estates

The record currently stands at 1,006 sedans and 32 estates, put together they make the C 63 the best selling AMG model in Australia to date. The success has also helped put Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific into fourth place worldwide (by volume) for global AMG sales.
Despite stock shortages, last year Mercedes-Benz grow its AMG sales by 8 per cent, helped along by the limited edition “Edition 63” C 63 sedans and estates (built for Australia only).

The Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Mr Horst von Sanden said “So far in 2010 we have posted a 22 percent increase in sales, with the all-new E 63 AMG already having sold more than 100 units and the C 63 AMG is on track for more 600 units. We have convincingly established the C63 as the ultimate prestige sports sedan in Australia by outselling our nearest rival by 66 percent in 2009 and 131 percent in 2010.”
The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG manages 336kW at 6,800rpm and maximum torque of 600Nm. It will sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The German sports car is directly pitched against the BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Lexus IS-F.

“I sometimes think that AMG stands for ‘Australian Market Growth’,” concluded von Sanden.”

It is getting ridiculous, I see at least 2 C63 AMG per day, sometimes up to 10, being driven by all sorts of people, young kids, real estate agents, old men, and tiny housewives.

THink the c63 is really outselling the M3 by that much? i would have thought the M3 would be selling atleast double that of the c63.

No way not in AUS. The C63 out sells the M3 by 3 to 1. MB in AUS changed its pricing model and almost every thing is standard and they dropped the price. The new shape has a lot do with it also. For $150k AUD it is no bargain however compared to the M3 it is the car to have in AUS! Most C63 owners would love the new E63 however it is over $100k AUD more so the C63 is second best for them.

I live in a high-rise residential apartment in Queensland, so I share my garage with about ~120 other cars, although I have locked parking - thank god. There are at least 10 C63 AMGs in the parking lot that I can account for. Really does seem to be a popular car. My only problem is that every owner i have spoken too, has mentioned the bone jarring ride on Brisbane's roads. Not my cup of tea.
