Mercedes-Benz At The Detroit Auto Show 2008

We're hearing lots about their new diesels, but they've been pretty quiet about the future of the petrol engine range. I hope they've got something tasty cooking.
Well there's a new NA 305hp/360Nm V6 dropping anytime now. For the V8's, obviously waiting for munich to play it's hands first:cool:(think they just did) so anytime soon. Mercedes WILL respond to the new 400hp V8 and i think sooner than its taken for the V6. No way is the S class falling behind for a minute

Are they seriously using that old hag to promote the GLK? Is that the image they are going for? old, tired and desperate? Couldn't they line up any of the other chicks from s&c? :t-crazy2:

I don't think the updated 3.5V6 is a sufficient response to BMW 3 litre turbo. It seems more of a stop gap measure until a proper response is formulated. Mercedes usually has a torque advantage, but this time they have been left in BMW's wake. Oh well, at least it seems to be significantly better then the BM in terms of fuel consumption.

One thing I have noticed in C-class reviews is a complaint of a slight amount of harshness at the upper reaches of the 3.5's limits. I hope this has been resolved. The C should have been launched WITH the new engine! A poor effort on MB's part.

I wonder if the shared Chrysler/MB engine program is still alive. I hope not.

I would say their answer to BMWs new V8 is thier current 5.5L V8. It still has a lot more in reserve.

My goodness! What's wrong with old people.? Everyone on this forum will be old in their life time. Nothing is wrong with older people.

I think thats the problem. People keep acting like Benz is for older people. Anyone can drive a car, but that doesn't mean the car is defined by the drivers age.

Come on people. This car will fit who likes it. If someone doesn't buy this car because they used that woman to introduce it then something is wrong with them NOT Mercedes. Let's try to be more open minded.

Most likely this will be the car choice for younger male driver anyway. I'm sure someone over 50 would prefer the M-class or X5.

They're going to wait until Geneva to show us the big stuff like the FL SL, CLS and maybe some type of concept that isn't an SUV.

Now when the the New York auto show rolls around in April we'll see that SLC/SL Black Series thingy that shocked everyone some months ago. Just like last year's NY show when the CLK63 Black Series came out they're going to really surprise us.

M

Sounds Great!

Lol, I never said there is anything is wrong with old people, stop imagining insults and flying off the handle. But using someone who is not the demography for a product in a marketing campaign is just plain stupid...unless of course 50 something single women is the target audience for the GLK. Ever wonder why they don't use 18yr old chicks to promote Viagra or 80 yr olds to promote Xbox 360?

Well Benz might just be on a budget and she came cheap. I doubt that people will say "Oh God she is so old...I will not be buying that car now!". I'm sure they had their reasons for using her. I'm glad she is out and has a job. I think it's sad that a lot of old people are being fired for younger people to come in just to get a younger audience.

Let the old girl be employed. I'm just happy Benz thought enough of that lady. Hey, I might even get the GLK now thanks to that old lady. :)

But seriously, i doubt this will really change anything.

Matter of fact SUNNY they let them OLD Girls from Sexy in the City use it for their movie so this shouldn't be a shock.

I think she does not go with the trendy, young, dynamic image Benz want to give to the GLK, because these vehicules are mainly bought by young, rich women. And Benz has an old enough image not to promote its car with 50+ people! The GLK is not aimed to 50+ people. A lot of people already think that Benz is for the 50+, and this promotion will not change this.

I agree with those who say it is a bad move. Imo this is even counterproductive advertisement.
