GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door MOPF (Modelpflege)

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé (X290) is the first generation five-door variant of the AMG GT two-door sports car. Production: September 2018– Model years: 2019–
The new wheels are horrible for my opinion, the design alone is ok, but those additional rings in it, omfg ugly…looks like they are for an EV (btw. i also dont like the wheels on Brabus rocket 900 GT 4d - looking like china cheap plastic covers from the 90’s from the German “tuning shop” D&W)

While never have being a big fan of the X290, these MOPF presentation cars are looking absolutely stellar. And now, following the EQS reveal, I have come to realize that the X290 isn't that bad at all.

I have no love for the AMG GT 4 door and this facelift changes nothing. Subjectively, the looks don't appeal to me; what was meant to look muscular turned out to be plain heavy-looking - especially ahead of the A-pillar which has one of the fattest front-ends ever to house a lengthways powertrain.

The design however isn't the issue for me. The real problem I have with GT 4dr is that it's a parasite in MB's own line-up, needlessly drawing attention away from classic models like the E63 and even outright denying the current CLS the focus (and halo model in 63 guise) it rightfully deserves. For me, the GT 4dr is unnecessary; I'd rather the effort got put into enhancing the appeal and model range of the E and CLS lines - picture E63S Black Series - than be wasted on a product that is foremost an internal competitor, terribly similar to two other models.

I would have also loved to have seen the effort and funds expended on the X290 transferred to the C257 instead. The C257 embodies the "classical" top-of-the line M-B virtues of svelte, athletic elegance far more compellingly than the brutish, self-adulating, braggart of an automobile that the X290 is.

I picture a C257 configured in the same manner as those MOPF X290s' pictured above. How utterly gorgeous would that have been ?

It look like it rides too high - like one of those bouncing cars.

Stoppit Sunny lol. It's the surface and sunlight under the car. This shot makes the car look it's best IMO.

Absolutely, this car should have been the CLS, but Mercedes got greedy and in their defense these plans were likely made right as the SUV boom was becoming apparent and they weren't going to turn back. You're absolutely right, this car killed the CLS and though the CLS is prettier, that's about all it has on this car. It doesn't drive nearly as well and of course with no engines it can't compete. Mercedes has the same redundancy with the A-Class sedan and CLA, one of them has to go. Now when cars were in fashion Mercedes would be selling A-Class sedan, CLA, AMG GT 4D and CLS in big numbers, but that time is absolutely over. We'll be lucky to get another AMG GT 4-door but yeah the CLS gone. Absolutely gone.

Another thing that bugs the dickens out of me:

This metal, go-faster insert is nothing new - BMW love doing this too - but here it's an embellishment that looks out of place and spoils what would've been a very clean surface.

The GT73 might be replacing the 63 nameplate altogether.

No sight of a GT73 since AMG might use the "63S E-performance" moniker for its top-of-the-line breed. At least this is what I read on mbpassion.de and heard through the grapevine.
What I recently discovered is a different front-bumper design for future V8-models for the GT 4-door.

There should be also an aption for adpoting an "all black" design, just as we have with the aero-package for the CLA 45.

They must've really liked Porsche's naming convention for the Panamera (Turbo S e-hybrid).

It looks better but I can't really put my finger on what has changed stylistically. Still prefer the Panny over this and, if I wanted the V8, I'd want the E63 Estate.

One place they cut costs is to remove the unlock/lock button for the front passenger door. All these cuts must add up for MB...

Too expensive by at least 20%.

Very difficult to sell and especially in the face of stiff competition from EV's.

I'm quite sure the AMG GT 4-Door and the Porsche Panamera will not be replaced after this generation.
