Mercedes-AMG Dropping 6.2-liter V8 for Bi-Turbo 5.5-Liter V8 - report

An old article I keep posting. The engines have been in development for quite some time.

Acordin to this article the new 55 AMG engines are suposed to have 571 hp.

I don't know, but 571hp/664lbs appears so sweet to read... :) let alone the 707hp/885lbs...

Hi,

i used to drive an E55 for 5 years... my glorious 476hp bastard!
And really, i have to confirm the "bad" experience by changing to my actual CL63... i was totally disappointed the first time i drove through the ramp to the highway, pedal to the metal and... nothing!
There was a big adrenalin rush, cause i was in a bad situation, sandwiched between trucks and the crash barrier. It seems like ages, but finally the car found the correct gear and boom!
But thats history, a mind mistake, you have to learn the 6.2 and the 7 speed shift, specially when you jused to drive the "old" compressor version with the 5 speed.

Ok, but now, back to the roots?
That might be a good reason to keep my CL, it will be the "biggest" engine and not more avaiable... no, boys, do you believe this?
And what about the SLS? I would be really pissed of if i got my SLS and some months later there is a new engine inside... That would give me the feeling, that i have an old car already before it is handed over to me!

It seems to me they are referring to the current 6.3 power output with two levels of boost since it is the only engine referenced in the article.

True, the SLS 6.6 engine has 571 hp, so we still have to find what hp output has the new 55 AMG engines.

It will have more than 542 hp (550 PS), but I doubt it will trump the output of the SLS, so it will also be less than 571 hp.

Best regards,
south

This video intrigues me. The engine is definitely not the 55 Kompressor or the 6.3 V8, but it does have the pops and crackles on the over-run. It's also not as high revving and the sound is quite muffled. Ignore the garbage of this being the 63 BS; this engine IMO could very well be the new Bi-Turbo V8...:eusa_thin

This is a common sound of black.
