GT [Official] McLaren Grand Tourer

The McLaren GT is a two seat grand tourer designed and manufactured by the British automobile manufacturer McLaren Automotive. It is the company's first dedicated grand tourer and is based on the same platform underpinning the 720S with the addition of a carbon fiber rear deck topped by a glazed tailgate creating significantly greater storage capacity.

McLaren Grand Tourer Teased In Production Body

Forget the track, this is a McLaren for long distance trips on the road.
First teased in early March, McLaren's upcoming grand tourer hits the road again in new images that whet the appetites of wealthy potential buyers. The company promises to start ripping off the camouflage on April 30. The concept of a more comfortable McLaren model that specializes in eating up miles at high speeds continues to be very intriguing.

McLaren Teases New Grand Tourer Ahead Of 2019 Release
Currently, McLaren only confirms that the grand tourer gets power from a twin-turbo V8. "It’s a car that has been designed for distance and one that will also provide the comfort and space expected of a Grand Tourer. But with a level of agility never experienced before in this segment," McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt said when originally announcing the model.

The next step in the development is a 1,000-mile (1,609-kilometer) trip from McLaren's development center near Barcelona, Spain, to the automaker's headquarters in Woking, England. To check the vehicle's level of comfort, the two test drivers plan to take the journey in a single stint while carrying all of their luggage.

For one more look at McLaren's grand tourer, take a look at the shot above. The photographer Alex Alexiev works as a designer at McLaren, so this image blurs the line between a spy photo and an official teaser. Unfortunately, the picture comes from before the removal of the extra concealment panels from the body.

You don’t see a lot of mid engined GTs will be interesting to see what they do with it.

The R8 and i8 are the only mid engined GTs I can think of. McLaren are clearly aiming to be different but the GT credentials of the car will hinge on its practicality. If it can only hold a set soft Dunhill bags then it’s questionable whether it’s a practical daily driver.

Either way I am intrigued and look forward to a first look by Shmee or Mr. JWW.

"Forget the track"...

Yeah, this means it will only humilate 80% of its rivals on track, instead of other McLarens' 95% LOL :D

Both are sports cars, and not GTs?

Ewww, no!

It's insane what have they done in less than 10 years.

Admireable.

Nothing since the F1, and now a whole lineup of amazing sports/super/hypercars. In the meantime, BMW hasn't made a single supercar.

They do not have available engineers for that task, because all the talented ones were busy creating the groudbraking and unseen till now FWD for the 1er

I don’t know if I’d class the R8 and I8 as GTs ....R8 for me is a supercar/sportscar while Im not quite sure where I’d put the i8 .....maybe a semi sportcar.

GTs IMO are the Bentley GT, 812, S coupe, 8 series,Aston Martin.

Very difficult to classify a mid-engined car as a GT. Closest I can come up with is the McLaren 570GT. [Well, thanks for that capt. obvs. :cautious:]

The first generation R8 is not a GT car. The driving position alone decides that. After one hour you really need to get out and stretch your legs.

How you adjust your seating position has a huge impact on comfort. I have done may long drives in Porsche's fixed back CF seats with no issue.
