The TVR is ugly. I completely agree with that. Then again I don't like the McLaren F1. IMO as long as the Bugatti Veyron is in the picture the McLaren is a useless car to me.

This engine powered McLaren to victory at Le Mans on its debut in 1995 and to several FIA GT championships...

In 1995, the McLaren F1 cemented its place in history by winning the Le Mans endurance race at the first attempt. Not only did the F1 GTR finish first, it also occupied 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th places when the flag came down after 24 gruelling hours.

In the summer of 1999 at RAF Alconbury, a disused airbase in Cambridgeshire, UK the McLaren F1 LM set a new acceleration record from 0-100-0 mph. With Andy Wallace once again behind the wheel of a McLaren F1, the LM smashed the previous record by setting a time of 11.5 seconds.

WORLD SPEED RECORD - Driven by racing driver, Andy Wallace, the F1 took just one attempt to raise McLaren's previously unofficial mark of 231mph set at Nardo in 1993. On the third run the car reached a phenomenal 240.1mph (or 386.7kph) smashing the previous record of 212mph held by a Jaguar XJ220. Incredibly the McLaren F1 held the record of the world's fastest production car for over 7 years.

XP5 is undoubtedly the most renowned McLaren F1 road car. Built in 1993 and painted in Silverstone Green, XP5 was used for marketing events and press drives. Featured in countless magazines, XP5 is immediately recognisable not only by its unique colour but also its iconic number plate K8 MCL.

Not only did XP5 become the fastest road car on the planet but it also went on to break further records. On December 16th 1998 XP5, driven by Peter Taylor, an independent test and development engineer broke the high-speed circuit record at MIRA averaging 168mph round the 2.82 mile banked circuit with a maximum speed of 196.2mph.

In March 1999 BBC's Top Gear, in conjunction with McLaren Automotive, set a new UK closed circuit record in aid of the Comic Relief charity. Driven by Tiff Needell, XP5 once again sensationally set the fastest lap record of a British circuit averaging 195.3mph round the two mile banked circuit at Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire.

PRODUCTION - The McLaren F1's carbon monocoque body comprised 48 individual hand laid mouldings bonded together. The monocoque was produced at the Shalford facility taking approximately 3,000 hours to complete before being painted and transferred to the Genesis facility for assembly.

There, the F1 was painstakingly assembled to the highest quality standards by the greatest trained technicians and craftsmen. Since every McLaren F1 was entirely unique and customised to the exact preferences of the owner, each car took no fewer than 750 hours to assemble.
