Good for Mercedes - and well deserved too.

As for the three series being ugly ........WRONG! - Jeremy Clarkson isn't so beautiful himself - and his taste in cars is often questionable.

The BMW 3 series is very good looking IMO, Clarkson is just too old and pathetic to appreciate superior design.

He's not that old is he? Late 40's early 50's. Hardly "old" enough to say that he is totally old school.
Of any car company in the world, I think BMW is the most targetted by Top Gear. I'm sure everyone say the M5 episode where he complains through pretty much the whole thing. Any car enthusiast that knows what's going on would have spent more time talking about the engine and handling but oh well. I knew as soon as the 3er came out, he would hate it. Oddly enough though, he likes the 6er
And the cars he likes... pretty questionable is right. S-type? Come on now.

MB surely deserves the award, but it's only Top Gear... not worth much.

actually i think it is.. top gear reaches a huge crowd.. much more ppl will see those awards compared to awards by magazines or posted on the net by various organizations..

I doubt that very much. I bet E90 going to be a best seller in the segment even if TopGear hate it. BMW has got many awards this year and TopGears nomination wont affect BMW reputation or sales.
