That particular PS of the upcoming Maserati Coupe should, hopefully, be of no indication to the final version when it arrives sometime next year. The only universally accepted styling element of the new Coupe is of the Quattroporte-esque grille, which in itself harks back to the times of Maserati's long past.
I'm personally looking forward to this new car, as I am a big fan of Maserati's of the past and present, spreading through the 3500GT to the Merak, and more recently, the 3200/4200GT and the Quattroporte. Hopefully it will take more styling elements of the Quattroporte than just the grille.
Some time ago, the Car and Driver website had a small page dedicated to the upcoming Coupe, tentatively calling the model as a "Quattroporte coupe". They reported that there will be two new models; a folding hardtop model to replace the current Coupe and a larger, more GT-style coupe based on the Quattroporte. As far as I know, that is incorrect. There will just be one two-door model to replace the Coupe. They also featured a glorious-looking PS of the car and my hope is that it looks similar to this chop.
I can't wait to see how this car turns out, and see how well it can rival it's competitiors, from the 911 to the DB9.
