GranTurismo Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio are a series of grand tourers produced by Maserati, succeeding the Maserati Coupé and Spyder.
Anyone who wants a super high-res picture of the exterior, PM me your email address... It shows a lot of intricate detail of the body. It's given to me by my dealer. :usa7uh:

Well, I don't think I quoted a comparison... Those are words straight from the horse's mouth, I don't think it can get any more factual than that.

I think you miss understood my point, I wasn't questioning you I was simply stating my position.:)

Big news out of Italy last week: The sexiest new coupe in years is coming to market.

Maserati has released a photo of its new GranTurismo coupe, a model that will replace the company's current, so-so sports car, the $80,000 Maserati Coupe.

Styled by Pininfarina, the Italian design specialist that creates nearly every Ferrari, the muscular, sporty GranTurismo will make its debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show. Maserati promises the vehicle will have excellent steering and enough room for four people.

The Specs
Italian for "Grand Touring," GranTurismo (also spelled Gran Turismo, with a space between the words) is an automotive term that refers to a sports or touring car with a closed coupe body style (as opposed to a convertible).

The GranTurismo will use a 4.2-liter, 405-horsepower V-8 engine. The car's automatic transmission will feature an adaptive control system, which adjusts the gear-shifting characteristics to the driving style and conditions at any given moment.

The Back Story
The outgoing Maserati Coupe, which has been on the market for about five years, has never really caught on as a Porsche 911 competitor, primarily because its styling is not particularly exciting. But one can easily forgive the misstep: The 2002 Coupe, when it arrived earlier in this decade, was a first crack at reviving a defunct make.

Maserati had been on life support from 1976 until Fiat (nyse: FIA - news - people ) bought the company in 1993. By 1997, when Fiat's Ferrari subsidiary took control of the brand, Maserati cars had all but disappeared from American roads. But Ferrari spent over $250 million to renovate Maserati's obsolete factory in Modena, Italy, and the brand was reborn with a coupe and convertible.

Ferrari helped return Maserati to the U.S., and the brand now sells about 2,000 vehicles per year here. But what really resurrected Maserati was not the Coupe or the convertible but the company's $104,000 Quattroporte sedan, which arrived as a 2005 model. By far the sexiest luxury sedan on the planet, the Quattroporte is rare, but it makes heads turn wherever it goes. It was also the first Maserati developed by the Ferrari-Maserati partnership; the Coupe and convertible had mechanical underpinnings developed before the takeover.

The new GranTurismo looks more like the Quattroporte than the outgoing Maserati Coupe, which is bound to make it a relative hit.

Forbes Fact
Maserati, like Ferrari, originally made only race cars. In 1939 and 1940, Maserati fielded the only Italian cars to win the Indy 500. Maserati's first Gran Turismo car first appeared at the 1947 Geneva Motor Show. This car, called the A6, was a Pininfarina design, like the new GranTurismo. The A6 was Maserati's first street-legal car, and the company built 58 units of it. The motoring press praised the A6 for its technology and avant-garde style.

^whoa is it really that much of a jump??

if so this car cant be conciderd the sucessor to the 3200 .. it must have been made with a higher aim then

It seem like the GranTurismo is an entire new car model. The previous coupe will probably me replaced by their upcoming spyder model which we saw spyshots of a couple of months ago. According to rumors the Spyder will feature a metal folding roof. My guess is that they are saving the spyder for Frankfurt.

Thanks for the RL pics Luw.

I must say that after seeing h tis real time pics, the car doesn't look nearly as good as it did in the highly polished photographs issued by Maserati.

The interior now feels more 'logical' and 'linear' than the previous one. Have to see more pictures but some of the emotive lines of the Gransport's interior have been lost IMO.

Exterior doesn't look nearly as good irl, but as with most Maseratis, you'd have to see it for yourself to appreciate it. The Quattroporte is a model which doesn't shine in pictures but it will blow you away irl.

I believe it will be the same for this GranT. It's penned by the same guy who designed the 599... Which didn't get the reception it wanted from internet pictures too.

wow the rear looks wierd in the real life shots..
the lights are to large..
other than that its hot:D
