GranTurismo Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio are a series of grand tourers produced by Maserati, succeeding the Maserati Coupé and Spyder.
Rob: First of all, you contributed alot in my decision of purchasing the 7er. now what? you want me to go broke and buy the Maser? please stop. no more compliment for the Maser. :D

Ah ...no, keep the 7er for now ...besides you needed a larger car -- are you planning to have children soon?

Rob: I postponed my wedding plans for a year or 2. so no, no kids recently. And thats the mistake I did. I over-forcasted (is this a word?:D) my plans and bough a comfy big car for a young man :D

Oh sorry, I remember now, you said that you postponed your wedding.

Still, are you happy with your big Beemeer?

Rob: Yes I guess. It actually suits my needs well, its powerful, quite, comfy, spacious. My work is like 50Km away from home and thats why I love it. But I still feel like a grandpa sometimes with such huge car. Thats why I might sell it if this "feeling" continues .

well the 6er is as youthful abnd sporty as it comes in this segment, save for the maser QP, i would keep it hands down, or trade it in for an F01 or X6 later on if i were to stck to BMW, or i would move to maser or something equally exceptional

In order to keep the coupe class honest, the Gran Turismo would have to be pinned against the CL, Bentley CGT.

Look how spacious it's inside, the front seats aren't even pushed up that much and you can obviously see how much room the rear occupents have.

So the question we are debating is: is this Maser a BMW 6er killer or a Mercedes SL/CL competitor?

I should say something nearer to a 6er and an SL, but not quite a CL yet. I don't know about the rest of the world but in my country, the SL, 6er and the current Gransport is priced similarly, while the CL is a whole ball game altogether.

Again I must reiterate, the price I quoted is just a rumour from some guy who asked his dealer. :D

True, as I've said before... Maserati seems to have made this car more practical with the backseat space and the ZF auto - I just hope it doesn't lose any of its edge.

Maserati owners I know are already saying that the performance of the GranTurismo won't match the Gransport/Coupe because of its power-to-weight ratio. The Gransport, by comparison, is only 1680kg, while the GranTurismo is 1880kg. :eusa_thin

They also need to step-up their engine outputs! If your paying over $100,000 grand on a sports coupe in this day in age the output has to justify the cost IMO!:)

Yes, I agree... Maserati has to fix this quick.

I think this new model will be slightly more expensive than the current Maserati coupe. As I have mentioned before, the current one has an asking price of around 79k and packs 390hp. The GranTurismo packs suprisingly 405hp, just 15hp more. Then there is the Gransport which packs 400hp and lands at just 100k. My guess is that Maserati will at a later stage launch an ever more powerful GranTurismo sporting around 420-430hp. With that being said the AMV8 will suffer big time if the GransTurismo price tag lands below 90k.

Damn those outputs suck! Who do they think they are Porsche?:t-hands:

Actually the same of what I've been thinking about. I like beemers, its the best combination of sportiness, quality, design + driving pleasure for me right now. Actually I was thinking of owning 2 cars at the same time. A GT like the Maser + some daily BMW driver like the 330 or 335 if possible.

Yes, I also expect an edgier GranTurismo to be released by Maser, just like how the GranSport is the sportier derivative of the Coupe. I'm predicting a 4.7L V8, 450bhp with a Cambiocorsa transmission. The more I look at the GranTurismo, the more I see it as a GT/cruiser to boost sales... And not as a true replacement to its sportier predecessors.

As for the price... My dad was quoted a price just a little more than the present Gransport. These price games are really confusing. :t-hands:

Remember again that the GranTurismo competes with cars like the 650i (367hp) and SL550 (388hp). From this perspective the GranTurismo is doing just fine. :usa7uh:

Is that a fact, or your opinion?

Here's a quote from an interview with Karl Heinz Kalbfell, former Maserati CEO:

The Quattroporte continues to fight in the upper-end sport-sedan market against the 7 Series, among others. Below that, the Coupe and Spyder are more exclusive rivals to the 6 Series.

Is that what you're asking? :t-hands:

I hate when they pin miss match vehicles against each other. You'd be hard pressed to find a pocketbook that can fit in the back seat of a 6er, but the Gran Turismo's back seat occupants have a good deal of leg room. What ever! This makes as much sense to me as the RS4 (sedan) vs. M3 (coupe). I never liked those comparisons!:t-hands:

Well, I don't think I quoted a comparison... Those are words straight from the horse's mouth, I don't think it can get any more factual than that.
